My company is being nice enough to send me to Galway, Ireland. I'll be there for a week and I've got maybe 12 hours of work to do. Where should I head to find something hoppy?

Galway Bay have a few pubs in the city which will probably be your best bet. Salt House is the main one I think. I've been to one of their boozers in Dublin which was very good (well for Ireland anyway). Of Foam and Fury (their DIPA) is the top rated Irish beer on RB so that might be worth seeking out.

I second the Salt House recommendation. Had a great time there a couple of years ago. Even shared some NZ beers with a local. And while they are associated with a brewery they have other beers as well (draft and bottle).

Of Foam and Fury is great, especially if they have it on cask...

Just down the street from the Salt House is another place "Bierhaus" that has a decent (and somewhat different) selection of beers. If you come across Beoir #1 have one -- a great hoppy 10% "DIPA"

I was in Galway a few years back with the family and we dropped into a bar in the centre to sample the atmosphere. I went for the Galway Hooker on tap and found it very enjoyable, especially considering my previous visit had been in 1994 when there was no craft beer scene to speak of. It was a great deal better than the Smithwicks and stouts that used to be all you could get.

I thought it more Belgian styled than American at the time though I note there are those who peg it with the APAs. See what you think.
