Thats what I'm afraid of. Most times I've called liquor stores (some exceptions of course), they don't make the effort to look.

Try calling Arsenal Wine and Spirit in Watertown. I saw it there pretty recently.

FYI, it is on tap at Three Penny in Montpelier VT. Doesn't really help you in Boston tho...

So against my better judgement I called today. I simply asked if they carried Jack's Abby beer. The first lady put me on hold and then a guy picked up. I asked him the same question. He literally, put the phone down for one second and said "we don't carry that".

Luckily, a friend of mine works a few minutes away and stopped by at lunch. Not only did they have many of Jack's Abby offerings, they had BA Framminghammer!

Thanks for the heads up DonFrap.

the other reason not to call non-beer savvy stores is the danger of the false positive. more precisely, the following situation:

you: "hi, do you have JACK'S ABBY BARREL AGED FRAMINGHAMMER?"
them: (looks at shelf. sees any random jack's abby beer; say hoponius union) "yeah, we have that."

even if you're assertive enough to ask for confirmation, the majority of the people who hear "sam adams [anything at all]" when you say "sam adams utopias" or whatever continue to hear "sam adams [anything at all]" if you try to be all pushy about it ("are you SURE you have the right beer!?!?").

tl;dr: usually best to just go check it out, or not. "non-beer-savvy" places are dice rolls.

The people at this store are not craft savvy (I'll assume that rather than they are morons). I was in there today explicitly to confirm their denial and they most DEFINITELY still have 9 bottles.

I'm confused why this store sucks. They told you they would hold them for a week. 10 days is longer than a week.

There were 6 bottles on the shelf at Streetcar in Jamaica Plain this afternoon. Now only 4 because I bought 2.

Just stopped by Charlestown Liquors and they still have some left (if anyone is still looking). A word of warning, craft beer doesn't get snatched up in Charlestown, so check the dates ( especially on those IPAs). The owner just started bringing in craft beer. It is mostly local stuff, but they do get some interesting bottles every once in a while.

Bin Ends in Braintree had several bottles late last week. Probably worth a call just to be sure. They continue to build their craft selection and it's not a bad visit no matter what.

If you are still looking, Charles Street Liquors in Boston had some BA Framinghammer a few weeks ago. Might want to call first. If you are still looking in Western Mass., I know two stores in Great Barrington that might have it. Domaney's and Plaza Package both seem to have Jack's Abby a lot. I am pretty sure I saw BA Framinghammer at Domaney's last time I was out there, and I bought Smoked Maple Lager from Plaza Package.
