I did a search of the BA database for any beer that has 'spruce' in its name. To me the spruce flavor is much bolder than a pine taste that originates from the hops, but check out the link for any beers that are available to you. This kind of beer tends to be seasonal because new-growth spruce tips are used for brewing the beer, which means about now they will be available.

It’s been a while since I’ve had one of their beers, but if I recall correctly Lagunitas tends to use piney profile hops in a lot of their IPAs.

As I’m sure has already been mentioned, OP, but piney IPAs are R.I.P. on an essentially nationwide level.

Please enjoy only aromatic and lightly bitter IPAs only from here forward, OP.

    Glad to help

Ahh, the piney IPA. So easy to acquire fresh pre-haze craze.

These days I go for Jai Alai when I need some piney-ness.

It has been quite a while since I drank a Loose Cannon so keep that in mind. I enjoyed drinking that beer but my recollection is that I picked up mostly citrus in this beer (akin to Jai Alai but I drank a lot of Jai Alai earlier this year when vacationing in Florida before the pandemic hit). Maybe with your palate you will pick up pine in Loose Cannon?

    Cheers!

Not so fast buddy. If resinous IBU bombs ever tasted good, then they still do. Many beers posing as IPAs these days are really just citrus-forward pale ales. There’s still plenty of room for all variations on the American IPA.

It’s an old school example, but I get a lot of piney flavors from Victory HopDevil.

If you ever get the chance to try Snake River Pako's IPA, it's heavy on the pine.

I love Lawson’s beers, and Chinookered fills that bill, unfortunately not readily available.

Here’s what ya do. You find a crazy old scientist who goes by the name of Doctor Emmet Brown. He’s got this souped up DeLorean car. You get in the car (make sure you it’s filled with plutonium unless it’s got one of those Fancy updated fuel intakes that can run on shitty 16 oz haze bro Cans) and set the date to like, 2007. Make sure to give that flux capacitor a few taps-It can get a little wonky sometimes. Once you get to your desired date, just look for IPAs brewed and hopped with chinook, Simcoe and Columbus. Should be plentiful and easy to find. Stock up because those beers are delicious and pretty much extinct now. While you’re there, make bets with beer geeks like, I bet that 80 percent of beers in the future will contain lactose or that brewers will throw all sorts of crap into beer in the future like paper money, glitter, frozen pizza, cheesecakes, candy bars, etc. Or maybe, I bet that milkshake ipas will be a style and almost all IPAs are brewed with the same two or three hops. Observe the puzzled, horrified looks on their faces and then meet them a decade or so later and get paid! Oh, and never set the date to the year 2020.

Not sure what it is about Hop Devil, but it has always come across piney to me. Couldn’t agree more with County Line though, good call.

Founders Centennial. And from my experience just look for the darker amber-ish colored IPAs, most of them seem to come off as piney to me. Once you get into yellow and orange territory I find that the tastes are much different.

I can get behind Hop Juju and in fact when one of my non beer drinking friends tried a sip she said it tastes like a pine tree ha ha! Head Hunter has the pine notes too but for me was more on the back end.

Man if you lived in north Louisiana I would send you to the brewery in my hometown, their Pale Ale and IPA are both old school crystal malt pine bombs. I honestly was turned off the first time I had them a few years ago, but....It is somewhat nice now to go old school every now and then. There is only .5% abv difference between the 2. Have never figured that out, couldn't tell you which one I was drinking if you put them in front of me

In addition to a lot of good suggestions here, you should look out for IPAs and other hop focused beers brewed with spruce/spruce tips. Chinook, Centennial, and Simcoe hops seem the most biased towards pine and resin flavors, as well, so it would probably be good to keep an eye out for beers that feature these.

If you live in southern maryland, you are very lucky because Peabody Heights out of Baltimore recently made a West Coast DIPA and put it in cans in stores (at least over in Frederick where I live) that could be one of the best I’ve ever had. Definitely look for that beer.

Would DFH 60 min be considered piney forward? It’s a touch more bitter hopped in the classic IPA sense. Union Duckpin and Double Duckpin have a nice Bitter/juicy hop balance going on. Just looking for some more local to MD options that are more classic American IPA or West Coast style.

County Line is a great suggestion.

Is Smuttynose available in MD? Their Finestkind would also fit the bill.
