Yeah - ya did sound a bit 18-ish...:grinning:

Another way to avoid the on-line conundrum is to use Seek-a-brew to find what is available in your area. There just has to be more than Dogfish around if you are in SoCal. While it's fun to try the beers you hear about from other parts of the country, sometimes your own back yard is the perfect place to look. To some extent, we all want what we can't easily obtain. Without a doubt, some beers are just that damned good, but sometimes they aren't to one's liking. The hype train isn't always justified, so don't get obsessive about "highly rated". When it comes down to it what matters is "highly rated to me" (or you...).

That's the great thing about this sport - plenty of options available and plenty of styles (and variations within those styles) to choose from. Don't be obsessed with chasing a particular beer - I did that for a while and passed up a lot of perfectly fine beers along the way. And as @jivex5k said, if a style isn't to your liking, then the "best" beer in that style will probably not taste good to you - no doubt. If you are having anxiety attacks over what beer to buy or "needing" to find, in my opinion you are doing it wrong. Beer isn't supposed to add stress - it is supposed to be fun.

Anywhere that you can do tastings, do them. Great way to experience different styles side-by-side or even examples of a similar style at one time. Liquor stores, restaurants, tasting rooms...wherever you can find a place to sample are good ways to expand the horizons. Find some places that offer flights. Brewery tours are very cool if you haven't done them - you can learn a lot by seeing how beer is made, meet some cool people, and usually try some great brews.

And this is truth - you don't HAVE to like IPAs.

I keep seeing people getting all sorts of beer by mail and I was wondering is there something I am missing? Where are these people getting this from other than trades. And are these places worth it. Pay sites etc. If they are worth it which it seems to be where is the best places to go for this sort of service.

    Thank you advocates.

If you search the forums, you'll find a ton of bottle shops that ship. It's a great way to get beers that are unavailable in your area...beware, shipping cost is pretty high, the last purchase I made, the shipping/handling was almost as much as the beer, but it was OK, I don't do it a lot and I got my hands on a very fresh Pliny...PM me if you want specifics

Check your state laws. I order beer from Iowa. Then again, I live with within 10 miles of 3 other states. So if I get bored, I just get in the car...

(Online Beer Stores.Homestead) gives you a complete listing of retailers of who and where beer can be shipped.
    Cheers!
