Hey all, I work for a brewpub in upstate NY and we're organizing a beer pairing with a discussion on hops, we're looking for beers that highlight a single type of hop. I was wondering if I could get some suggestions of types that are available in NY, I'll be going to Half Time this Thursday but I thought it would be good to have some ideas. I'll need a case of each. So far I've come up with Nugget Nectar and Weyerbacher Simcoe. I've seen those Mikkeller single-hop beers but I don't think I'd be able to get them in a full case. Cheers.

Founders Centennial is single hop. But Troeg's Nugget Nectar is not a single hop beer. (Check their website.)

Ithaca Cascazilla highlights Cascade hops (not single-hopped though).

Pilsner Urquell is a classic example for Saaz hops (dunno if it's single-hopped though).

Trying to get that stuff as I write. I've been told it is pretty good and represents the typical West Coast style (lacking equal malts). Just what I've heard, haven't had it yet.

The obvious would be Nugget Nectar (IMHO).

Nugget nectar isn't single hopped. Just greatly features nugget.

Peak has an all Simcoe spring ale and an all Citra Winter ale (also an all Summit fall seasonal that you probably won't still find). Shipyard's IPA is all Fuggles. Rogue has a lot.. their Yellow Snow is all Amarillo (website is conflicting though.. parts say single hopped and parts say amarillo/perle). Their American Amber is all Cascade. Rogues Chatoe Single Malt is all "Revolution" hops. Their Maierfest is all Perle. Avery's Hog Heaven is all Columbus. Hope that helps.

I've heard that the most recent batch of Middle Ages X is all-Warrior, and that the alphas in it are screaming bloody murder. You'd probably have to go to the brewery to get bottles or kegs of this batch though, it's just come out.

If you can find Sixpoint in upstate, they've been doing a single hop series of a beer called Spice of Life. I've had Warrior, Centennial, Cascade, Nelson Sauvin and one other that I can't remember. Not sure how long they will keep doing it and so far it's been draft only so I don't know if it helps.

edit: did not realize you need a case of each.

My favorite single hopped beer is Bells Two Hearted Ale (Centennial). I would recommend that you buy Two Hearted and Founders Centennial. Even though they are both made solely with Centennial hops (and they are both IPAs) they taste different to me. My guess on the difference is a different hoping schedule.

Sixpoint has been making single hopped beers throughout last year and continuing into this year as part of the Spice of Life program. I believe they are only available on draft. I have tasted the Chinook, Amarillo and Nelson Sauvin versions. You can read about the Spice of Life program here: http://sixpoint.com/blog/recent/spice-of-life-series-1-is-on-tap-now/

I would encourage you to contact Shane Welch (President of Sixpoint) concerning your program. Shane is a good guy and a true advocate of good beer. Perhaps there is some way he could help you with your project.

    Cheers!

Bells isn't distributed in NY so no Two Hearted without a little drive.

Not sure, but I think Weyerbacher Double Simcoe is all Simcoe hops. However, its probably considered a DIPA not an IPA.

Nice Homework, welldone! It does primarily serve the Nugget but does encompass the Warrior and Tomahawk. Nice catch.

Thanks for the input guys, I found the Peak Organic Simcoe, Anchor Liberty, Founders Centennial, Shipyard Fuggles and Nugget Nectar (even though that one isn't soley Nugget I'm assuming it really highlights it). I'll let you know it the tasting goes.
