Fellow BA's, I'm planning on increasing my system to a full electric system. Currently, I have selected this control panel to power my system http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/control-panel However, i'm a little stumped on what kettles to purchase. I'd like to be able to brew 20-25 gallon batches and want to be able to recirculate. So, with that being said, I guess I would like to go with the RIMS set-up. I'd like to see what kettles you guys are using for this scale of brewing. Cheers!
20-25 gallon batches are pretty big, I would look at Stout for a good kettle, I would also highly suggest a bottom drain option for all your kettles (MT, HLT, brew kettle) With that big of batches to do things in a reasonable amount of time (both HLT and kettle) you might need to go a bit bigger than the Kal setup for total amperage
another kettle option - http://www.bubbasbarrels.com/catalog/brew-kettles a link about someone else doing a Kal-style 20gallon system for only 12k ! - https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=16336.0 no idea how well this works but it is a 20gal turnkey system (albeit one without a dedicated HLT - a big issue IMO) - http://www.morebeer.com/products/blichmann-breweasy-electric-240-turnkey-kit-20-gallon.html just about everything else out there that size uses gas
you have better luck finding a used 3 barrel system. you are looking to build 75% of a one barrel system. that is way bigger than most all homebrew suppliers offer but a lot less than the typical micro system. your size requirements seem neither fish nor fowl. this kind of expense is beyond me though. how about looking for a stainless fabricator in your area? ask your local brewer for a lead. Good luck.
I think for now, I am going to continue using my 15.5 keggles and then upgrade in the future. Things are just working out well in my favor and opportunities have presented themselves to me.
