The neighborhood is more interesting around Mohawk Bend, too. Afterwards, you can hit up Sunset Beer Co., which is down the street, to see if there's anything interesting for sale (and on tap).

Thanks for all the input! One last question. Leaving west Hollywood heading to Venice, then back to Burbank to drop my buddy off at the airport. I'm looking for bottle shops along those areas. Was hoping to find some citraholic, but not sure it's hit stores yet.

Sorry to backtrack but I wouldn't trust the draft list posted on Mohawk's web site--I've been burned before. Here is a link to their feed on Untappd for a better idea of what's really there: https://untappd.com/venue/76038

Get an Uber pool, which will reduce costs to $5 bucks for most places, and you won't have to worry about buses, which suck.

Go to Sunset Beer Company. It's the best place to get beer in LA: amazing bottle shop, $2 corkage fee (free during happy hour), and a very well curated tap list. It's also a really cool ambiance, great music, hot girls, and it's in the heart of Silver Lake, which is a pretty exciting place to be for fun overall.

Blue Palms in Hollywood is also very good, though the bar itself is a bit lamer. The Surly Goat is fun, but a bit pricey and douchey as well. They have a very good tap list as well.

Oh, and since you'll be in downtown, go to Buzz for sure. It's a bit pricey for bottles, but they have a marginal corkage fee, and a good tap list to boot.

If you want some good food to go with your beer, you can go to Father's Office in Culver City or Santa Monica. Beer Belly in koreatown is fun, they have really mean bar food, and very reasonable prices. It gets crowded though. They have a mean burger. Steingarten LA is also quite good, and they have very fair bottle prices as well. Avoid Mohawk's Bend, which is lame (best taplist if IPA's are your thing). Finally, Stout Burgers and Beer has usually a very good tap list, and really excellent burgers (I like them better than Father's office tbh!).

But Sunset Beer Company is definitely where it's at, for me.

For bottle shops, Sunset Beer Company, Buzz, Vendome in Beverly Hills, Wally's, Ramirez, and K&L.

yeah, i wouldn't call Mohawk lame. Buzz on the other hand is one of the worst beer establishments in LA (radically overpriced, leave beer in sunlight, attitudinal staff)

    to each their own

not to be that guy, but Sunset Beer is in Echo Park, not Silver Lake.

I think their food is mediocre at best. And I just hate the layout of the place. I think Father's Office, Steingarten, Blue Palms, and Stout smoke it food wise. It's just one man's opinion.

The place itself I think it's very 'restauranty', not as chill imo as the others. But to each his own.

About Buzz, I think they are pricey, but I haven't had problems with the staff at all. And their tap list is well curated. Also, they have some really good bottles there as well. I think it's improved a lot lately.

It's actually a very decent deal if you go with bottles and pay the two-three dollar corkage fee. It comes out quite reasonable then, certainly a lot cheaper than buying bottles at Blue Palms, Surly, etc. And their taplist is pretty average price wise overall.

Get a suasage at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank and u must get a brew and an Office Burger at the original Fathers Office in Santa Monica. Two best spots for beer and chow in LA IMO. God I love the Office Burger....

Every time I went to Mohawk Bend there were fruit flies all over the taps. Echo Park is grimy --- and MB follows suit. I mean cool place and all -- but grimy.....

I guess my third fave spot would be Beachwood BBQ in seal beach. Had one particular afternoon there that was memorable for both the food and brews.

I've received great advice in this thread recently, looking for a little more. I'm going to be in Silverlake area, near Fountain and Sunset on Thursday. Looking for great beer and good food. I'm kind of sick of Blue Palms, what other places are within a short to moderate drive? Was thinking Mohawk Bend or Tony's Darts Away. Any recs?

Sunset beer, Hermosillo in highland park has highland park brewery, Pasadena has stone, congregation ale house, lucky baldwins and blind donkey. Surley goat in west Hollywood has great taps.

Mohawk is a great option, as is Sunset Beer (no food). A little further out but Hermosillo is worth it (as mentioned). The best East Side brewery by far.

Strictly food, if you like Vietnamese, Wat Dong Moon Lek is right near you. Good stuff

    Mother Dough has amazing pizza

Cliff's Edge if you are looking for upper scale. Awesome outdoor patio.

    Lunch or dinner?

Forage, Pine and Crane, Yuca's Hut for lunch. Also Best Fish Tacos in Ensenada.

Tony's Darts is cool but in Burbank and not that close
