I am headed to LA next week for a few days and was wondering if anyone had any breweries or beer spots I have to hit up. Last time I was there, I hit up the Surly Goat (drinks) & The Village Idiot (food and drinks). Thanks in advance.

I may drive to San Diego if I have time for 1 day, so feel free to throw some advise on SD too.

    Cheers!

I've lived in Los Angeles my entire life so here it goes!

DEFINITELY stop by San Diego, stop by Lost Abbey/Port Brewing, Stone Brewery (There is a location in Pasadena [close to LA] if you cant make the main location]. If you do go to San Diego, Green Flash Brewery is a must if you like hops (Although I prefer Port Brewing which is owned by Lost Abbey).

As for Los Angeles, I would highly suggest Golden Road Brewery. Decent food, but lots of games to play and a nice friendly environment.

Ladyface Brewery is in Agoura and has great food using local/seasonal ingredients. Pretty darn good beer too... while you are around that side, Daves Wine has a HUGE selection.

+1 on San Diego, its a must! Go to Societe Brewery in Kearny Mesa, they are absolutely killing it and theyre a short drive from some other great breweries - Alesmith, Green Flash etc...

I would also recommend you get lunch and a few brews at O'Briens Pub, also in Kearny Mesa. World class draft list, usually has Pliny on tap year round and great bottle selection.

I like Golden Road, too (more than a lot of people here). They have good food and a pleasant atmosphere in the pub. Their own beers vary in quality (their Berliner Weisse is superb), and they always have guest brews on draft.

Other places worth trying (in order of my own preference):

    Mohawk Bend

Smog City Brewery - it's in the South Bay, not L.A. proper, so it's a drive. It's my favorite of the L.A. area breweries. It's also right near Monkish (literally around the block) and El Segundo, both of which are pretty good.

    Blue Palms

Grab a slice at LA Pizza Co then make your way to Sunset Beer Co right next to it.

If you take the 405 to San Diego make a stop in the city of Long Beach and hit up Beachwood BBQ for some great brews.

Same song and dance. Search Los Angeles, San Diego here and you'll get plenty of "hits" or misses.
But my choice as on the other post:
    Beachwood SB and LB
    Noble Ale
    Smog City
    El Segundo Brewing Co
    the Bruery
    in SD. . . . .
ABC in Alpine (if you like those kinda hoppy hoppy beers) meh.
    Societe
Stone Escondido (pricey and so so food) & Port/Lost Abbey
    Modern Times
    ………….. .. . . .

There are so many great places nowadays, your best strategy might be to visit different spots in clusters. Where are you staying and how much time do you have?

Are they even good? I've seen people eating them and they look soggy and bready.

Thanks for all the posts so far....
I am flying in on Wed morning (9am), grabbing a rental car and hitting the road to SD. I have all wednesday to hit as many spots in San Diego (and area), but I want to make them count (quality over quantity). I gotta be back in LA on thursday. So I basically have 1 full day and night in SD. Thursday during the day, I want to tool around in LA and hit up some breweries/beer bars. Friday-Sun are basically booked for wedding shit I have to do.
