I have lost 2 full tanks of CO2 in 2 days. My half/barrel is cold and has 5 pitchers drawn off. The regulator jumped to 35psi immediately, then settled down to 10 psi when I adjusted the control knob. I was able to draw a good pitcher, came back 90 minutes later and there was no beer, gauge read 0 and the gas tank was empty. Refilled the tank, tightened all connections, opened the tank control knob fully, did not replace the gasket between the regulator and the tank, had the same results. Pressure shot up, settled down to 10 psi, went out to work, came back for a beer. . .no pressure, gauge said 0, tank empty UGH! Any help appreciated Thirsty Girl
There is a leak somewhere obviously. Often you can crank the pressure up to 50 or so and listen for it, or you can spray soapy water on the connections. There are two washers in the set up that give people trouble - one where the regulator attaches to the tank and the duck bill where the hose connects to the coupler. Has this set up worked before or is it new?
Glad you found your leak, but I wouldn't assume there was only one problem. I feel much better when I crank up the pressure and shut off the tank master valve. Let it sit at least 24 hours and if it's holds pressure you're probably home free. You really don't want to be visiting those guys at the CO2 store every day.
I just had a problem with CO2 running out on the early side (4th keg vs 8th). Went to separate tank from the regulator and found it was on the loose side. Gas supply store owner said it is best to use a wrench vs pliers and to make sure you give it a good tightening (Thread/connection can handle it). Just to be on the safe side, I did what PortLargo mentions above to make sure there were no other leaks.
PortLargo, Thanks for the tip. Did just that and the pressure held. We are now enjoying our Sam Summer.
