Hi all, I had a question about shipping beer, and how often shipping services "lose" packages? I am about to send my first package tomorrow and am nervous about it being lost, or stolen rather, and want to see if any others out there have experienced this and what the chances are. Thanks, and have a great night
No need to be nervous...just make sure the labels are on there securely, and that you have a contingency plan (tracking # written on box, extra label inside box, etc.) just in case. But again, no need to be nervous. Law of averages dictates that it'll happen sometimes (only once for me in over 200 boxes sent/received), but just make sure the box's tracking number is never in question...welcome to trading! Cheers and Beers! JJFoodie
I didn't see the option listed, but if you're asking "Have you ever said a shipment was 'lost' or 'stolen' as to not follow through with your end of the deal" then the answer is yes.
This guy told me he was the crowned price of Nigeria living abroad in Namibia for security reasons. I send a case of heady and in return I was suppose to get USD 130,000,000. He claims the package never arrived and emptied my bank account...
Technically no, I've only had one package not arrive on me and that's because it leaked in transit and was "destroyed". I hope those customs officials enjoyed their 8 bottles of Saku porter. Pricks.
With my first box I sent out I was more worried about the bottles breaking. I think the packaging I used weighed more than the beer!
I haven't had any issues, but I only have around 30 or so boxes sent/received, I think if you trade enough this is a matter of "when" not "if", I mean some of these people have hundreds of trades done, it is bound to happen at least once. I wouldn't worry about it though.
I had a box that got stolen off of the UPS truck right before it was supposed to be delivered to my trader in VT. Lost a HotD Matt, 2 Fantasia, 2 Peche 'n Brett, and another beer I can't recall. I did get reimbursed for the $100 that UPS automatically insures packages for...but it still sucks.
It sucks being on the other end as well... getting a box like that dropped off on the porch is like christmas morning man !!! the anticipation and excitement get crushed the moment you realize that your box got "lost or stolen" by the carrier. it really takes a few days to set in as well and for a week or so every time you go home you think its going to be on the porch waiting!! kind of like when the cat runs away, but for good!!! man its just a crappy situation no matter how you look at it. I just hope somebody enjoyed those jems and rubies...
Some kids were most likely drinking it their parents' basement. It's okay, I got your blend love and need to pack everything up for round two of portland sours.
nice, thanks man. but I still want the other box crying... those UPS bastards! I still dont understand how you "loose" a package. is it really that complicated?
UPS once "lost" a box I was sending... for about a month. The tracking said it never left the store. They did a "trace," couldn't find it. I sent more beer to compensate. Then one day, the first box just shows up magically at the guy's doorstep.
I have had 2 experiences both were with fed ex: scenario 1: box shipped from CA to me in CT. The expected shipment date changed from a friday to the following tuesday. I noticed that the box was scanned in Maryland (which I have heard is notorious for breaking bottles). I was at work when the box showed up, my wife texted me and said she had heard some broken glass sounds from the box. She opened the box to find a big clear trash bag with another box inside. the box smelt of old warm DIPA. one of the bombers inside had smashed. From what I understand fed ex smashed the bottle, and repackaged it to get it to my house. (the sender said he did not double box or use trash bag). scenario 2: I was feeling mad lazy one day and threw a few growlers and bombers inside a card board wine bottle shipper to send to my cousin in Boston (CT to MA). I never secured the swing top on the growlers simply because it was hot and for some reason I figured it would be ok. The growlers opened up in transit sometime, and he finds a soaked falling apart box on his porch the next day, Again smelling of old warm DIPA.(fed ex delivered the box despite the fact that it was falling apart and beer soaked). both scenarios fed ex went above and beyond to deliver beer, and this is why I ship fed ex. Also because they deliver on saturdays which is nice for my friends out west. moral of the story: always secure growlers and if your concerned with bottles leaking always bag the SH%T up!
