So I had an Agave Maria when it first came out back in May and absolutely loved it. I thought the barrel character was excellent, the agave/tequila flavor was just right in complimenting the booziness, and rated it a straight 5. In fact, in the interim period I've often thought about how much I believed it was being quite underrated by the BA community.

However, I got my hands on another bottle the other day, and was less than impressed. The barrel character had all but vanished, and the agave/tequila notes were way too overwhelming. The first caveat is that the beer clearly sat on a shelf for 6 months or so. But it didn't look like it was light-struck or anything, so I can't imagine it having that big of an effect. The second is that obviously a person's palate will evolve in that time period, but I've never experienced variance in enjoyability quite like this--and I still love boozy BA beers as much as ever otherwise.

Has anyone else experienced anything quite like this? Has there been a lot of variance in AM bottles? Or maybe it just hit a weird spot in its aging?
