    Wow.

That aside, there should be some collecting dust on a shelf near you, there's no sense in driving down for it...

It seems like you do a weekly "Where can I find (insert a sort of limited, seasonal) release?!" thread.

Parabola, Cantillion, BOMB!.... now you're after Lost Abbey's seasonal/once-every-few-years releases with LA's Angel's Share and DDG.

I mean, it's great that you're getting into craft beer and while it may be easy to go for the one or two beers that everyone is talking about, you have to remember the beers that aren't hyped up on the "new hottness" are also good.

You're on this website, you could easily see that DDG is not going to be something you could find off the shelf at a store and was a one day couple of hour limited beer.

As for Angel's Share, it's good, but really comes in at a high price tag, which often means that it sits on most shelves. Much like Older Viscosity, these small 375ml bottles generally sit and you really don't have to chase any trucks for them. Most spots will be happy to sell you this year's as well as last year's that hasn't moved.

My advice is to develop a relationship with your local bottle shop. Talk to them and you'll, for the most part, get to know when those big named tickers get released and won't have to look ALL OVER SOCAL to find them.

But don't forget there's plenty of great beer that isn't in the whalez brah area code and can be enjoyed by simply going to your local bottle shop.

This. And it's nice to buy shelf beer from them too, not just limited stuff. Once you develop a relationship, they'll hold some of the hard to get stuff for you too.

Although some stuff is brewery release only and you have to keep up with the release schedule. Look over V013, CFH and Remy's Pappy threads for examples.

I haven't seen Angel's Share on shelves in Los Angeles for a while. I did find a bottle down in San Diego at a random liquor store near OB whose name I don't remember.

I'd recommend you enjoy the current Lost Abbey seasonal (Agave Maria) and wait for the next round of Angel's Share.

FWIW, Lost Abbey doesn't even have Angel's Share bottles in stock anymore. At least not as of the V013 release the othwe week.

I see Angel's Share so often that I don't even keep track of where I see it. Go to a few shops and one of them will have it.

I guess the question is do you want the Bourbon, Brandy, or Grand Cru?

I've come to a similar opinion about chasing down whales. Seems like a waste of time and money, now. But it was fun at the time.

I second Earlycsquid. Just do your research. It's not that difficult.

Besides, there are beers that you can get on a regular basis that, quite possibly and quite honestly, taste better and ARE better than rares and whales

I wouldn't call Angel's Share a whale (I know that wasn't the point of the post). As people here have pointed out, at its price point it hangs around for awhile. It is super delicious and one of my favorite beers, but it is really expensive. If it were half the price I would be drinking it all the time. As it is I only buy a couple to last me through the year.

I'm not adding much, but this was a polite, respectful, well-articulated response. To OP, take this advice to heart.

I dunno, it came across as a bit condescending to me.

I for one hope SoCaliC8 ignores the lectures and drinks what she wants to drink instead of drinking what people tell her she should want to drink ...

I appreciate the help gentlemen. Just trying to track it down for a friend in Chicago that I am going to see next week and don't feel like driving to 15 different shops to find it. Was just trying to find 1 place so I can go THERE and get it.

I don't see how that message was condescending; the guy provided solid advice and alternatives to her original request. Like we previously mentioned SoCaliC8 your best bet is the trading forum, you are not going to find DDG on shelves, and if you wish to purchase it you will be paying way over the original price. See what trades got it done, and try to acquire those other bottles or stock up on other good stuff.

We are here to help but reading through threads and getting some trade downs under your belt will make it easier to acquire.
