Hi all, I recently purchased a bottle of The Lost Abbey Saints Devotion which I'm excited about as it's hard to come by in the UK. It set me back a fair bit (£7.49/Around $13) but once I got it home I noticed some very dark bubbly gunk around the cork. Is this still okay to open and drink? Or shall I contact the place I got it from to get another one sent to me? Thanks in advance.
I had a similar problem with a different Lost Abbey cork & cage bottle. It was "fine" and I drank it. When was it bottled? I think it's ok to drink it, but I can't promise you that the beer will taste the way it suppose to.
There almost certainly are different laws in the UK regarding perishable item returns, but I would expect that if you open the beer, the problem becomes yours, not the retailers (I would still swap it out, but technically speaking). Better to remain safe and return it now.
Thanks for your advice everyone. I'd prefer it to taste how it should do so I've asked for a swap/return.
Had the same problem with Judgement Day (my only Lost Abbey beer), it was fine but I had the same concerns and no way to tell if that was how it was supposed to taste or not. If you can swap it, I would.
It seems strange that this has happened with a few of them. Maybe it's something to do with their bottling process? Is there anyone from Port/Lost Abbey on these forums? Maybe we should contact them and ask if not.
