Has anyone had a bottle of Deliverance that just tastes a bit odd? I am currently sipping on one, and it is extremely bitter and nearly sour, and I am not getting much if any hints of Bourbon. Not sure if it may be infected? Somewhat confused on this one.
I had one recently, and honestly I thought the bourbon in mine was overwhelming - it was hard to tell if I was drinking a beer or a glass of bourbon. So maybe it was just your bottle.
I love this thread. I can say my old Deliverance bottle ('10) had no issues except low carb - which is probably a mistake from the Abbey, then tend to treat their beers like red wine. That being said, Deliverance is one of the better and more consistent of their beers. Could you have an infected bottle? Sure.
is it just me or is Lost Abbey one of the least consistent breweries? not trying to bash... i like their beer, but i can't help but notice this trend..
i had a 2011 deliverance a few months ago that tasted like straight scotch. i do not like scotch very much so it ended up a drain pour, didn't know if that's how it was supposed to be or if i had a bad bottle but yeah it was not very nice
Do you drink whiskey at all often? I only ask because maybe you're mistaking the scotch flavors for the bourbon heavy flavor of the beer. It's definitely bourbon forward. OP: Sounds like an infection to me. I haven't shelled out the $18 for a bottle because of LA's bottle reputation but when I had Deliverance on tap it was amazing. Looks like I won't be changing my mind on a bottle purchase anytime soon.
i drink bourbon occasionally and i drink a lot of bourbon beers and can recognize the taste of bourbon. it smelled and tasted like straight up scotch. i don't really know what to think about it, i'd have to try it fresh to feel confident saying it was a bad bottle, but it definitely didn't taste like bourbon. maybe it's my palette, i couldn't handle more than a few sips so i can't form a solid opinion of the beer. my only experience with this beer was a weird one though.
