I have a question regarding Lost Abbey beers and their freshness. I picked up a bottle of Seduction, Devotion, and Avant Garde while I was in Georgia as I can't get LA beers at home. I just realized the Avant Garde was bottled in late 2010. Should I be concerned?
Lost Abbey beers are usually involving wild yeast, which in my opinion, only gets better with age. The Avant Garde I haven't had but it appears to be a Biere de Garde. Shouldn't be a problem but it won't be a representation as Lost Abbey intended. Enjoy it!
Biere de Garde's, despite their name, aren't really meant to be aged (not 2+ years IMO), and neither are Belgian Pale Ales (which is what Devotion is). I would drink these sooner rather than later. I don't think LA makes a beer called Seduction, and in any case, neither of other two have any wild yeast.
It depends on the storage conditions. p.s. I know I've seen your avatar someplace, but I can't remember where...
You're right. I was referring to Serpent's Stout. I guess that's what happens when I rush the post. The Serpent's Stout was bottled 1/2012 so I'm less worried with that one and the Devotion Ale did not have a stamp date on it so I plan to drink it sooner rather than later along with the Avant Garde. I was just surprised to see the age of the bottles, especially at Hop City in Atlanta. Oh well. Thanks for the info everyone!
Had an 08 Angels Share last week. Flat like a fine red wine. the Serpents Stout ages pretty well I think. Good luck.
