Every time a thread about buying beer or glassware online comes up, somebody inevitably moans about shipping costs. Chanokokoro nails it on the head: for a low-volume retailer like a brewery webshop, shipping a FedEx/UPS box is going to be somewhere around $10 for a small package, and USPS isn't much better. Additionally, unlike beer traders, who put the time and packing materials together to send a box because it's their hobby, these companies need to account for the cost of the shipping materials and the time it takes their employee to fill it or they are going to lose money.

The only way to minimize shipping costs, per item, is to maximize your order; find friends who are willing to go into an order and you're paying a few dollars S&H for each glass and not $12.

I emailed customer service and got a response like 2 minutes later, I was informed it takes them 5-10 business days to process orders, I was told mine was processed today, originally placed 7/13, and i am supposed to get shipping info sent to me today.

Sounds like a "squeeky wheel gets the grease" kind of issue. I guess I should email again.

I ordered a fizzy yellow beer is for woosies t-shirt $18, a russian imperial stout tulip $8, total $8 UPS charges from Stone. Great packaging job. I could have thrown he box across the room and the glass wouldn't have broken. They use packing tape with a gargoyle on it! One week to get from CA to MA.

I would guess some of the shipping cost difference has to do with:

    stone size >>> LA size

I am guessing Stone has someone whose job more or less encompasses shipping out online orders. Whereas for LA I would guess they just task it to someone who has a spare moment, or it is someone's secondary (or tertiary) job.

I almost always pick USPS if the option is there. I screwed up this time. USPS is almost always the cheapest and fastest option.

dang, i thought the only option was Fedex ground ($9). oh well, sure beats driving 200mi (3hrs) round trip.

that's what i thought. didn't see other shipping options, or maybe i was just in a hurry and was ignorant. i'm not in a hurry on shipping time. the shitty thing is, in general and not just at lost abbey, was the processing time to ship.

cool and all that they're busy and only have one worker who does shipping, but a shout-out email would have been nice saying that processing will take x amount of time. even at that, for a small company versus like amazon, big box store, i'd send them a wtf email.
