Will my beer be ok? Any ideas to get it out? I just finished brewing and pitched the yeast. :slight_frown: Scared it's going to go bad. I took the day of to brew and everything.

I presume it is the stainless steel type? Leave it in there, and recover it after you rack off the beer. It shouldn't hurt the beer at all.

Stainless Steel, yes. Good this is the answer I was hoping for.

If you're really worried about it, I've fished rubber o rings out with my bare arm before. I sanitized the crap out of it first. I'd use a spider or some other kitchen utensil next time. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just don't forget to fish it out when you're done with the batch. I tossed a stir plate rod by accident after it fell in the wort when I pitched yeast. Yes, I forgot the magnet that day too! But when I cleaned the fermenter I tossed the yeast into the ditch behind the house and the stir rod went with it. Never found it.

j, think about it ... you can primary beer in stainless steel vessels, and can secondary them or store them permanently in stainless steel kegs. Stainless steel is quite passive. As long as it is clean and sanitized, put as much of it as you want into your primary fermenter. No problem! Beer is not at risk.

Thanks everyone. When I retrieve it after racking I'll be sure to practice with it in water. I must have had the pressure too high. It was fine for about 30 seconds and right as I went to turn it off it made a loud bang. Glad the glass carboy didn't shatter.

That happened to me on Thursday too. I tried a bunch of utensils, but ended up going with my arm soaked in sanitizer so I could close the vessel quicker. Cheers to never letting that happen again. Air lock is going on before the vessel is closed from now on! Lessons learned.

I have had that issue and since have used a hose clamp to keep it on with no problem...

Thought about that. Do you just keep the hose clamp on permanently? What about cleaning and sanitizing?

I use it permanantly on there. Thought about that too, but I tend to boil mine about 15 minutes to sanitize so I figure that does it.
