I'll be driving west through the Chicago area in early August and was wondering. Are there any Binny's that have a better beer selection than others or are they all about the same. Other than going downtown or up the lakefront, my route is flexible. Any guidance is appreciated.

Former Castle Vav. He's no longer with Binny's. Call it Castle ?

All the Binny's have a great selection. The Downers Grove, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Bloomingdale ,and Oakbrook stores have selection and knowledgeable staff. You may want to try the Beer Cellar in downtown Glen Ellyn-- a large selection of craft beers and a helpful owner.

The answer is definitely Lincoln Park, although perhaps slightly less strongly than it used to be. However, they're all great, even the smaller Binny's locations, so you're fine no matter where you go.

LP does have a killer tap room, though.

Except the McHenry store. Friggin' dump.

Go commiserate with Doug Sohn. The one thing he misses is everyone calling him "Hot Doug"

On topic: Find the closest store that works with your route. If you're headed west, Oak Brook or Downer's Grove likely fit that bill.

Weird, I'm around McHenry a lot, I've never even thought to pop in. Guess I unconsciously made the right choice!

There was a time it was managed pretty well... :grinning:

Yeah. Until about six years ago. Now it's Algonquin's turn to get unmanaged, since four months previous.

It's all good though. I go for my CDL written test this week, then it's off to train on the job up in WI. Five years of long haul, 10-4 good buddy trucking ahead of me after, until I'm 62. Then it's off to Florida for retirement with the Missus.

There's quite a bit more $$$ in trucking than beer consulting..... but more hours and dangers though. You can't jacknife a beer aisle, lol.

Oh, but it's an adventure. A trip. If you hang around long enough, it's sort of like an acid trip.

Thanx to all. FYI - I was at the Lincoln Park location a couple of years ago and it was awesome, but I don't want to take the time to get there and out of there.

South loop has a huge selection and a bar with solid drafts. It's right off I290 so it's super accessible.

The only two I frequent are the Glen Ellyn and Bloomingdale stores. I think the Glen Ellyn store is better...
