Coming down to Louisville for forecastle music festival and was wondering what are some good places to hit up. Also I know this is a beer board but what is the best distillery to take a tour of.
I live across the river... Breweries: Bluegrass, Cumberland, Apocalypse, Great Flood, Against the Grain Personally I like Great Flood and Apocalypse In New Albany there is New Albanian....for me it's hit or miss but I was there saturday night and it was a hit! So right now I'll sing their praises!! Also try and check out Sergio's World of Beers...really cool, odd, but delightful place that I KNOW you will dig. And it's a block or two from Apocalypse Brew Works! Louisville beer store downtown is a neat place also. So if you go there you are going to be super close to Against the Grain and Bluegrass Brewing downtown. Hope you enjoy our little corner of the world.
I forgot that Falls City is also here. Its not what it once was. It's been converted into a craft brewery that does some really good brews, depending on your style preference.
I just spent the weekend in Louisville. We really liked Holy Grale and Gralehaus, which serves primarily European styles. Their garden does a traditional Kolsch service on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, which I really enjoyed. We also went to Against the Grain and New Albanian. New Albanian was great - all really solid beers that were true to style. Also enjoyed The Keg liquor store in Clarksville, IN. We planned to hit Great Flood or Apocalypse, but we were too pressed for time.
You can find lots of info from previous posts about Louisville beer spots. In my opinion Apocalypse is gross. Holy Grale is great. Against the Grain is just good but with GREAT food (get the brisket). To answer your one unanswered question...Buffalo Trace is the best tour IF and ONLY IF you reserve a "hard hat tour" ahead of time. Seriously. You have to book a reservation. If that isn't possible Woodford has a great tour and visitors center. It's definitely well put together.
Thanks for the distillery info. In regards to buffalo trace to they have any thing that is worth while to purchase. Also any really small but cool distilleries to hit up
