At my tasting group’s last meeting we were able to try some of the Rogue Voodoo Maple Bacon Ale, and I have to say that I really liked it (my full review is here). I’m glad that I didn’t have to drink the whole thing to myself, but think it’s a great example of an experimental/unique beer. From the reviews I’ve read on BA, though, it seems like it’s one of the love it or hate it beer. In my group, I was the one that actually enjoyed it.

This got me to thinking about other polarizing beers. Besides sours and maybe DFH 120, I couldn’t really think of a lot of other beers that get both extremes of opinion.

Note: I think this was a post in the old forum, so I apologize for the rehash (except not really).

I loved Rogue Voodoo Doughnut! I thought it was very similar to Funky Buddha Maple Bacon.

I now have the desire to try all bacon-based beers. Does Funky Buddha still make it?

They do! But they are currently not filling growlers :slight_frown:

I almost went into a sugar coma from it, but I know others love it. Definitely a love it or hate it.

Very polarizing beer. The most polarizing in the Bell's line up for sure maybe on of the most in all craft beer.

Pumpkin beers in general also fall into the polarizing category.

Southern Tier Pumking. Seems like a lot of people really like this beer, my buddies and I couldn't finish the bottle.

Closely related (I would guess): Schlenkerla's smoked beers. Hell, even I hated them the first time I tried them. Then I took the "Schlenkerla test" -- drinking 3+ half liters in a single sitting -- and I was (more than) convinced.

Gubna and Devil Dancer. Many people talk about the garlic flavors being to much, I am a fan of both. Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast Stout not a fan.

Yeah came in here to say Devil Dancer, definitely the most polarizing that I've noticed around the forums.

I'm convinced not a single one of those is worth trying even once.

Awful, awful beer in my opinion. I don't like anything big and malty from Southern Ter. They might as well have a beer called "imperial fructose corn syrup".

Unfortunately, there is a good amount of batch variation. Which one did you hate?

Batch 80. Enclosed is my review just so you know how I felt about it. Other BA's have argued that I may have had an infected bottle/batch.

For me it's anything blueberry, I had a bad experience with blueberry flavoring a couple times.
