I third Bells Cherry Stout. I had to take a bunch of Ambien and then drink it so that I'd have retrograde amnesia and wouldn't remember it. ☺

I felt the same way about the Choklat. Maybe because I was served a whole pint.

Seems people actually drink ST pumpking which is a complete drain pour. Most metallic beer ever just horrible.

I had the same batch and wasn't a fan... makes me think if I should give it another try because Matt blew me away.

Oh, yeah, Terrapin "Maggie's Farmhouse". Ever been at someone's house, and you get a bit thirsty, so you look in the fridge, and there's a carton of milk about half full. So you upend it, and the milk comes out chunky, and has the sourest taste imaginable? Well, that was my reaction, sans clumps. I reckon that my 25+ years or so of pretending to be a wine connoisseur has bred in me an aversion to Brettanomyces.
To be more precise, I have an aversion to 4-ethylphenol and isovaleric acid. In Burgundies and Rhones, I enjoyed the presence of small amounts of 4-ethylguiacol, which to me added a hint of spiciness. Even a tiny bit of the other two added some complexity, but only miniscule amounts. Greater concentrations of isovaleric acid, in particular, reminded me of the wonderful afternoons I spent mucking out horse stalls.
If there is a beer equivalent to a "corked" wine, I've never encountered it.

I found some corked bottles when I split w/ my ex; we each ended up w/ about 25 cases. I'll tell ya, tears WILL come to your eyes when you open a bottle of a Grand Cru Burgundy and it tastes like moldy cardboard.

I guess I just dont' "get" Saisons.

I noticed V009 had a pretty polarizing reviews. I loved it, others hated it.

Pumpking (and pumpkins in general) was the first thing that came to mind.

I would say Sweet Stouts, Scotch Ales, and Wheat (Belgian Wits, Hefes, ect) seem to be rather polarizing styles as well.

Love Pumking and Choklat, Creme Brulee was too sweet. Rauchbier seems love or hate (I love).

Has anyone mentioned Dark Lord at all? That's usually the first thing mentioned on this topic. I have had bottles I really enjoyed and others (the 09 vintage in particular) that were just not good.

sorry in advance for the jack-move, all. quick question. do you or anybody know if HotD's batch #'s actually represent an entire single batch?

encountered a case that seems to be all bad bottles. before buying the case, i had numerous singles. all the single bottles were fine. the batch # for the case & individual bottles was the same.

i'm trying to find a logical explanation if the batch # truly represents a batch, then how do you get numerous singles of the same batch that were all excellent then spring for a case of the same batch based on excellence, get home & learn you bought a box full of fire extinguishers?
