As I've added some years under my belt I've found the need to control dietary intake much better than in the past. I follow a low carb plan for 9-10 months a year in all and mix in some 5-7 day spurts of enjoying carbs and craft beer. I try to stay below 30 carbs a day and an IPA carries 15-20 in a 12 ounce offerings. I actually enjoy AAL beers anyhow and find the light beers refreshing for a couple but not more than that. I had three low carb beers in the fridge and decided to do a blind taster between the following: -I find predicting what is what in light beer tastings one of the hardest taste tests to do as everything is so subtle so I was pleased with the results. I'll just list in order of how they finished and my prediction blind on what they were. Wife poured in glasses and kept the key until I was finished. 1, Miller Lite (3.2 carbs): Just the most flavor overall with some light hop notes and toasted maltiness. Guessed Miller Lite 2. Coors Light (5 carbs): A bit sweeter. More ofa rounded maltiness....I actually prefer this beer at times but in the blind taster it came up a little short of the top beer. Guessed Coors Light 3. Grain Belt Elite (2.8 carbs): Hints of apples and pears and as it warmed diacetyl became evident. I had it stone cold the night before and it was fine but when examining it closely as it warmed it has flaws: Guessed Grain Belt Elite Side Note: I've tried just about all the low carb offerings and Miller Lite for a regular AAL seems to be the best. Summit Triumph is a good low carb IPA and Bent Paddle Light is really good too. Those two are the best overall. Heineken Silver is ok....better than Modelo Ore or Corona Premier...not as good as Miller Lite.
I agree. That is one of the top ones right up there with the top two I mentioned...should have included it. Tastes like a craft beer...has a touch of nice hops that I wasn't expecting...
Hate it. I've tried it a few times. I want to like it as I like the old Michelob standard and the packaging is great but I find it to be fizzy seltzer waterish with little beer flavor at all...just my impressions...
I recently revisited Natural Light, which was the first light beer I ever had. It's not bad 4.2% ABV and 3.2g Carbs. Michelob Ultra isn't bad for what it is, light, watery, but no off flavors. Bud Light to me has an off flavor, that I really can't describe or figure out where it comes from. I can't drink it at all Cue the music for the disrespect beer crew to chime in
