I'll be in the Lower Manhattan area next month for a few days for work. Along the East River near Battery Park. Any suggestions that are walking distance (preferable) or an easy cab ride?

    Thanks!

None in that immediate area that I know of. You'd have to venture to SOHO, LES, East Village or Midtown to open up your options. Proletariat (my personal fave), The Pony bar, The Jeffrey Bar, The Blind Tiger (closest to Battery Park I believe), The Gingerman and Rattle n Hum are all solid options. You could always head to Top Hops, The Growler Station or Good Beer to pick up some great beer and stock the mini fridge.

The Growler Bites And Brews might be a good option in the area - but I haven't made it down there yet, so I can't say. Give it a shot.

I don't know if you have any experience with the subway in NYC, but try embracing it if not. It will open the city and some great bars up to you.

If you want bottles to take home at a store down there, while also being walking distance from where you're at, just go to whole foods tribeca. Don't go to growler station, because that store doesn't exist; top hops isn't worth the trip, and good beer is great but it's really not that close to you.

Great suggestion on Whole Foods! I was really looking for a place for some bottles, too.

The Growler on Stone St is ok but I'd check draft list before going. Last time I was there is was just OK. But if you don't want to travel it may be your best bet. Otherwise everyone on this thread has great suggestions.

Wow that's really close by. Draft list doesn't look like anything amazing (right now) but I'll certainly check it out.

I work right by Battery Park, there is no beer bar down here that is going to blow your mind. As mentioned, Growler on Stone may be your best bet, Ulysses (also on Stone) has some decent bottles but gets jam packed and the Porterhouse @ Fraunces Tavern also has a decent list, though I have not been there since the storm last year and I know they lost a lot of inventory.

It looks like the hotel changed, I'll be within a few blocks of Penn Station so I see there is much more do now!

Wow, I stand corrected. I had been there about a half dozen times over the summer, and just assumed it was still open. Beer shops tend to be booming rather than closing. I just read an article that they owed 51K in rent. Ouch. Thank you for pointing this out to me as I would have undoubtedly stopped by again only to discover that I wasted my time.
