Heading to Ludington to be with family over July 4th. I am somewhat familiar with Jamesport Brewing, but see that there are two other breweries there, but not much info on line. Ludington Bay looks like it just opened pretty recently, and Starving Artist Brewing looks a bit elusive and maybe package takeout only? The Mitten Bar also looks pretty cool. Any help and suggestions from locals would be appreciated.

Stop at Pere Marquette Expeditions, they have a nice selection and seem to bring something special from their deep cellar every now and again. Make nice with the cashier and you never know what he will bring out.

The Mitten Bar was previously well-hyped in threads here, but I have not seen their name talked about in probably 5 years now. Maybe things have changed there. I've never been there to give any personal impressions.

I also have not been to the two other breweries, so hopefully someone can chime in on them.

I did notice that the Mitten Bar hasn't updated their tap list since March of 2016 on Beer Menus. Hopefully that doesn't mean bad news.

Wow! Something must have changed. Maybe a good source of info about them will be @HopHeadHerman.

My co-worker's husband is from Ludington and supposedly Ludington Bay was opened by the original brewer of Jamestown. His beer is very similar to Jamestown brewery from what I hear. She told me Starving Artist does not have a tasting room, but has some bottles/cans at local shops such as the Bier market in down town and has beer on tap at the Mitten.

I'm not a local but I'll chime in anyway since I usually visit Ludington once a year.

I always go to Jamesport when I visit. The fried perch is very good. The beers are very traditional, with the kolsch and stout standing out in my mind.

Ive been to the Mitten Bar once, last summer. It was open then! A nice draft selection and it connects to a restaurant with pretty good food.

Brian, the manager who ran The Mitten since it opened left about two years ago but earlier this year is back running the show. I'm sure he's got the place running like it was.
