I had a bit of a mishap transporting a 750ml capped bottle of Jester King Thrash Metal in my luggage. There was a bit of leakage from the cap, most likely from the manhandling the airline gave my bag. I was going to bring this bottle to a tasting with friends on Wednesday of this week. My question is - Will the remaining beer still be good to drink? The cap is still on and there still appears to be carbonation in the bottle. Thanks for any input.

Although only a guess, I would say yes. The beer did not completely open, and as long as it is refrigerated, I would think it would be fine for a few days. I have opened bottles and had to leave after opening them, so I used a wine stopper and these beers were fine 3 days latter, so I would imagine that yours would hold up a little better than that.

Just open it on your planned date and find out for yourself!

Welcome to the world of Jester King - those farmhouse yeasts don't seem to travel well! I sent a bottle of Thrash Metal to a friend, and the cap blew off in the shipping process, giving him and empty bottle and a soggy box. I dont ship JK beers any more for precisely this reason.

If you only had slight leakage, I would say go for it!

I would tape it back down and refrigerate to avoid losing anymore CO2 as well from this point.

Have a good tasting. Should be fine though.

    Cheers!

Anyone had any spillage while using this or this? Does it really works?

Would using a home brewing capper help? Maybe just squeeze it down if you have one or have access to one until your sharing time.

I got a JK/Mikkeller Beer Geek Rodeo in a trade recently. The bottle leaked a little in transit. It sat in the fridge for about 10 days before I drank it, but it turned out to be fine. Still had a ton of carbonation. Probably nothing to worry about on your end.

The wine skin is pretty fool proof, but that diaper bag looks like it could be "the new thing!"

I have some of both styles and haven't had any problems with breakage, so I can't say how well they work or not. But I think I prefer the Wine Diaper one just because you can reuse it. The Wine Skin is one and done.

Pretty sure the JK bottles have a wider opening than standard ones so I'd be very careful if you try this as it has the potential of cracking the opening if you press too hard.

That being said hope it all works out for you, had my first thrash metal last night and it was amazing!

Thank you for the info. Think I'll buy the Diaper then and see how it goes. Being reusable seems like a good feature.

I like it!! A Ranger fan from CA!! I will hopefully be living there as well soon. But my best friend who is a pilot answered a pressure question for me as well at one time. I fly to San Diego at least 1x a month and always on one of my trips I pack an extra suitcase to bring back beer. On all the new modern planes all the luggage compartments are pressurized, in some older planes the nose is sometimes not pressurized, but they will not store Fido in this compartment usually just handbags. Even though the compartments are pressurized its still not the same pressure as sea level so they would be subject to reduced pressure, so the changes in pressure could cause some leakage. I have never really had this problem to be honest but it was his explanation!

Wouldn't a ziplock bag and some bubble wrap be way more economical and just as effective?
