Website says open, Google says open, rolled up to grab some TRVE and it's permanently closed. What gives Denver?
Posted on 7/15/2024 For years they were vocal against allowing a single entity to hold multiple liquor licenses. With the passage of legislation years ago that allowed the sale of full-strength beer and now more recently wine, it has had a very negative impact on the business and livelihoods of small mom & pop and independently owned liquor stores.
Agreed. I went in there a couple times this past year and it looked like they were downsizing. A lot of empty space and whatnot.
Bummer, although they were on a downward slide well before the new laws. They were THE store for a while. Great staff, too. When they added those two rows of warm shelves and scaled back the "bomb shelter" is also when they seemed to totally stop caring about having fresh stock. That was maybe...2016'ish?
https://www.reddit.com/r/denverwhisky/comments/1e3zoxt/lukas_liquors_closed_permanently/?rdt=61621 ...looks like it closed over two weeks ago...updated its status in the BA database... ...believe I stopped there once, maybe 15 or more years ago, and was impressed with its beer selections...
That law is killing businesses and breweries, like I knew it would. For "convenience" we now have to go to some grocery store, or local chain behemoth. And good luck finding cold beer. It will just get worse, too. And when they allow liquor, hoooo-boy. Look out.
