Ok, I kind of get the whole thing about a clean tap line, but why is Lunch sooo much better on tap? Is it because I don't have to see that $8.99 price tag on that little bottle? Or is something else going on?

Instead you get $10/12 oz or $8/10 oz

I don't think it is worth the price tag(on tap or in the bottle) or hype IMO.

Or $11/12 for ten ounces! Great beer, not worth the price in bottle or draft, at least in Boston. $6/bottle at the brewery is better, still hate the format.

It seems to be popping up on tap list more in my neck of the woods. Usually $7 for a 12 oz around WMass.

Saw Lunch & Beer III for $10 a pour in Cambridge last night. I passed.

I can't wrap my head around a) who is paying these prices and b) how this brewery is seemingly thriving when their bottles collect dust as a result of said pricing

I thought it was $6? Peeper is $5. Either way, much better than the $8-10/bottle in Boston...

Last time I got it on draft it was 10 dollars at some ripoff place in South Boston. Good beer but nowhere near worth that price at a bar/restaurant unless maybe it is a full pint (which it never is). I don't know anyone who buys their bottles in Boston unless its Lunch, those things just collect dust which is a shame because most of the beers are good just not worth the price. They must do much better in other markets I guess.

It is because they bottle condition most of their beers, including Lunch. The process of bottle conditioning will certainly affect the taste of the beer to some degree, whereas in kegs they would force carbonate the beer. I'm sure they have their reasons for bottle conditioning. But yes I agree with you, Lunch is much better on tap, in fact it's pretty damn great.

I just had it on tap at Carriage Inn and Saloon in North Kingstown, RI. First time I had it and it was great. I think I paid $7 for 10oz.

Had Lunch on tap recently at Flatbread in Bedord...$8 for 16 oz. Probably the best price I've seen. That's sad.

Sucks to live in Boston then. I can get it around here in Ports or So Maine for $5-7 depending on the day.

Was $5 a pour yesterday in York.

Yeah it seems like the vast majority of people in this thread complaining about price live in Massachusetts. I'm seeing a correlation there. Anyways, I have seen Lunch in Maine in New Hampshire for as low as $6 a pint, but typically pay $7 and am happy to do so because it is delicious.

Had one tonight - $8 for ten ounce pour - in Boston. It's Friday and I splurge on this every once in a while, especially when only planning to have one or two beers.

I agree on the tap vs. bottle point too. Way better on draft and well worth the occasional splurge.

Unfortunately at Flatbread, the $8 "deal" of a full pint of Lunch is offset by the appetizer-sized pizzas masquerading as entrées.

Whenever I get dragged there I usually get the Berkshire Impy Stout, more than fairly priced around ~ $6.

The Flatbread menus used to indicate the small pies serving 1-2, the large serving 3-4.

Their smalls (oftentimes with skimpy toppings) aren't enough for 1 person on some occasions, at $13+ a pop.

But yeah, they do $8 Lunch pints. Yay <sarcasm font>

The flatbreads are often lacking. Let's not stroke the egos of restaurants like it seems we have to do with brewers. You are a business, you are open for criticism. Stop treating them all like they have fragile egos. It makes everyone look bad.

I routinely see Lunch and other Maine beers at $10-11 per pint in greater Boston, Cambridge/Somerville, and Waltham. Some have been charging these prices for years, no surprise in what must be the most expensive draft beer market in the US.
