I am not saying that I couldn't tell a Bud from a seltzer. Bud has a sweetness that unflavored seltzer lacks, and flavored seltzer is usually fruity. But all the things people claim as reasons to drink Bud (aside from the alcohol ) consistently made, no defects, refreshing when cold, carbonated, I can get from seltzer.

But people keep saying I am misjudging Bud because it's a Pilsener.

I didn't pick up on that part. If that is the case I disagree with it. I am a fan of pilsners myself.

To be honest, nothing said makes sense. Budweiser is not a pilsner. And there reallt isnt such a this as "misjudging" its beer. You like it or you don't who cares what others think of it. Some people would prefer Bud over Prima. Most here prefer prima over bud. But it doesn't mean u should think of bud as a bad beer because of that comparison. They are so completely different.

Maybe but isn't a bad beer and I just don't get it. People taste things differently. Maybe there is something I am not getting that others do. I am curious what it is though.

There is nothing there to get. What you aren't getting is that there is a percentage of the population that don't care for flavorful beer. Just as there are people who still like Kraft singles instead of real cheese there are people who like Bud.

I do hate that buttery mess CA chardonnay can be after oak aging - maybe its the equivalent of barrel aging every stout under the sun in the craft beer world?

Fun fact, the next fad in "beer" is going to be alcoholic seltzer water, literally. Personally, I don't understand why somebody would pay for a six pack of that stuff instead of a bottle of seltzer and a bottle of vodka, but the hard sodas are selling like they cure cancer and I don't understand those either. Is it really news to anybody that vodka and orange soda isn't a hard way to catch a buzz?

The answer to the original question was on fine display today in Cincinnati. There is a large street festival I was at, there was beer from almost every AB brand (they were the title sponsor), Great Lakes, bells, mad tree, alltech and a few more. There were lines at every bud booth and barely a soul at the craft booths. I assume people are there, in relatively warm weather and just want a light buzz, cold and refreshing liquid and don't give a damn about the flavors offered by two hearted or Kentucky bourbon barrel ale. Bud Light nails that, people don't want to pay $3 more for something they don't know or is going to be heavy and not enjoyable in hot weather. That's the attraction of macro lagers.

I think refreshing and cold are the main things people look for in macros. I usually get grainy water with bubbles, I actually enjoy one from time to time.

I realized that you didn't claim they were "indistinguishable" when I made my post... so I was being a little rude. If you ask most people who drink Bud why they drink it, I doubt you'll find too many mentions of carbonation, consistency, lack of defects, etc. I imagine many people would state that they simply like the taste. Why is this hard for many to comprehend?

By saying that seltzer fulfills all of the requirements but alcohol, you are implying that they are exchangeable (besides for the alcohol). Yours was the second post on these forums in a few days that compared the two. It's a loaded comparison and you're pushing buttons by making it. Truthfully, the thing that bothers me is that you (perhaps unintentionally) opened the door for the typically offensive posts that suggest that a macro lager is different from craft beer because it's just a way of delivering alcohol.

When people here push back against "craft beer snobbery " they sure do mention, quite alot, how Bud is consistent, without defects, etc, and contrast that with many craft beers.

I like craft, I like certain macros, because I tried them all and have a brain of my own so I know what I like. I feel like I'm the only person on this forum that likes macro and craft. So sick of the bashing on a site called beer advocate. You know, if it was called "Craft Beer Advocate" I'd probably be less of an asshole on this site.

I'm having a Pilsner Urquell right now. To me, pale lager has to have a minimum level of bitterness to be "refreshing when cold". The Coors Banquet I had recently was anything but refreshing. The corn sweetness made me wish I had access to a good Classic American Pilsner.

I take it that street festival did not have any SABL, any Fat Tire, any Blue Moon or Shocktop? There are so many beers that are light, not super hoppy, and are quite approachable.

I even have found more flavor in some macro imports - Heineken and Stella Artois for example, based on my tasting notes.

I am not referring to all macro lagers. Right now I am referring only to Bud.

Those are claims of it being a quality product and are used by people here when others claim that the product is garbage. That's not necessarily the same reasoning for why someone drinks it. When someone here likes a beer... any beer... they usually say that it tastes good, not that it doesn't have brewing flaws.

Right now, for me, seltzer DOES provide everything Bud does except the alcohol. At lower cost, and fewer calories. I can accept that it provides something else for other people (my rankings of IPA'S do not match precisely with everyone else's ) But could someone attempt to describe for me what that is?

When people say it is garbage, are they referring to brewing flaws?

Does it provide the same flavor?
