Notice that if the effects of advertising/marketing/repeated exposure to brands were as powerful as marketers like to speculate/believe, there wouldn't be craft beer demographics to be worried about and they'd not have to be worrying about catching up.

I guess if you build it they will come .

Still, since the great ones are so rare, maybe they should be seen on the same level as the whaliest whales (if we're being consistent ).

The problem with that is if I demand consistency from others I should oblige with consistency myself if I were to remain consistent.

Oh lord those craft singles. Haha. Great example. Definitely people drink box wine some people will drop $60 on a single bottle. And its not about $$$ its preference.

Tbh i still dont get what you mean by the whole seltzer thing but if you are trying to do a "tasting" on Bud, its not what you are missing. The beer is not made for that and not complex, if you will so you arent going to find all the flavors. Myself, drinking a bud right now can only get very light corn, and a tinge sourness maybe from grains idk but that it and thats all there needs to be. And the company prides itself on that so itll always be that way.

I can have Stilton, Roquefort and two year old aged Vermont cheddar in the fridge and the kids will yell 'no cheese!' if they can't find Kraft singles. To each their own, there's plenty for all, including Bud Light.

Light American Lager. Read the BJCP Style Guidelines. Bud, Coors, Miller - they all nail it (maybe with a little differentiation in yeast character). Don't know what's wrong with drinking any well made beer. It's also as much about occasion - I love to just such the bottom out of a can of ice cold Coors Light (an RIS might not be as refreshing).

My main take away (call it a hunch) is not that Craft Beer drinkers (or Import drinkers or Specialty Beer drinkers) are brighter, so much as that that the efficacy of fifty years' worth of repeated bombardment has had diminishing returns on Generation X, Y, and Millennials* specifically.

The needed catching-up is on the part of the bean counters, and it's about barrels brewed and/or sold. :sunglasses:

*An argument can be made that subsequent generations do indeed have more highly-trained, sophisticated palates.

There are a few "off-flavors" in macro lagers like DMS and acetal aldehyde, but those are supposed to be there. I don't care for most macro lagers (Coors Batch 19 is the exception) but if one is looking for beers that fit style parameters in particular the BJCP, Budweiser is spot on for the style.

Well, since the boomers are one of the demographics that is turning away from AALs to more flavorful beverages the hypothesis of newer younger folks being brighter/more resistant to the bombardment doesn't seem to fly.

What fits better is the hypothesis that the bombardment is focused on choosing between two alternatives, several demographics find desirable.

Notice also that American tastes in general over the last 30 years have undergone major shifts. No longer is Kraft Cheese and/or Cheese Wizz the only thing you'll find in the cheese sections of many many stores. Similarly the dominance of Wonder Bread has given way to other breads, including multigrain, wheat and rye, etc. etc. So we no longer see the dominance of processed cheese or "wallpaper paste" breads.

Marketers have adapated to the changes but do not seem to be leading them or making them for us.

I see that analogy differently, since those are two different 'styles' of burgers. I'd prefer to compare a national chain fast food burger with a local independent fast food burger- that's a little more apples to apples, although the independent one is usually better anyway .

    Not missing anything.

Knocking of an "ice cold" Miller Lite after an hour or two of hot activity works.

And personally I don't get the analogy to seltzer. There is something infinitely refreshing about an AAL in this situation. Sure others work but if it is what was provided, I'm ok with it.

I've never met a seltzer that contained hops.

It's possible that Budweiser is spot on for the style because the style guidelines were written to describe and include Budweiser.

Bud tastes like a boring beer. Bud Light and other light beers taste like beer flavored seltzer to me, like comparing lemon/lime flavored seltzer to lemon/lime flavored, sugar filled soda.

I'd rather drink lemon/lime flavored seltzer than lemon/lime flavored sugar filled soda.
