couple of my local bottle shops have the large bottles of Goose Island Madame Rose on the shelf. But everyone seems to be priced around $29.99. I understand I'm gonna pay a little more for a sour but is it worth a try at that price? I found, all be it a stroke of pure luck, a bottle of Cantillon St. Lam in a bottle shop a week ago for the same price.

It's good. $29.99 good? Maybe not, but it's rare too.

I hope you picked up the St. Lam. I think the Madame Rose is good, but I wouldn't pay $30 again. Once is enough at that price

@Vitamin_Hop oh ya! I don't leave 75cl bottles of Cantillon just sitting on a shelf when I see it.

Had it at a bottle share and absolutely LOVED it. To compare, would I put it up against Cascade's sours? Close...but not sure since I only had a taster glass's worth. YMMV but I would lean towards a "Yes."

But, can you taste the rare?

I read that through the voice of a sad dog in clown makeup. Rare has a taste and it is scientifically proven.

I read that study, too. Interesting. But you have to "know" that it is rare to taste the rareness.

I thought Madame Rose was the best of all the Goose Island sister sours at least. Probably not worth the pricetag, but closer to being worth it than the others.

Echoing all previous sentiments. Madame Rose is good, but prob not $30 for a 750ml good. I had the rare opportunity to pay $9 for a 6oz pour at a bar, and I figured that was a good way to try it without shelling out money for a full bottle.

If you haven't had Madame Rose yet, treat yourself and buy a bottle. As others have said, it's a wonderful beer (and one of the best of the GI sisters) although the price is steep. Buy one and enjoy it rather than loading up on a bunch of bottles.

It seems not to be moving. Saw it again today. Picked up one bottle. Can't wait to crack it open.

If I'm not mistaken, Madame Rose should only be 16 bucks or so for a 750. And I would definitely buy another bottle at 16 bucks. Great sour with some nice cherry notes. If I remember correctly, the oak barrel with some of the strongest oak flavors that I've ever gotten in a beer.

It used to be less, but when they reintroduced it last year in the larger format, it gained the higher price tag (along with all the other GI sisters).

Given that you can get imported mid-range lambics for the same price (and at a fraction at the source), I'd say it's not worth it.

It wasn't bad. And when I think about it is that I'd rather over pay for a good beer than flat out pay for a bad. I had a 2012 Sofia last month that was very good. I wonder if this beer will develop just as well

I would say that Madame Rose is best tried on tap when available. It lessens the $$ paid and gives you a chance to try less than a full bottle.

Fun story, I was at a restaurant and asked what the Goose seasonal was. I was surprised to find out that it was Madame Rose, and for $6 per pint, I had to order. Turns out it was left over from the previous night's special tapping and the price was supposed to be $6 for 5oz. Then the manager goes, "eh I want it gone, you can have the $6 price." And that's how I drank an imperial pint (19oz) Madame Rose for $6.....and then had a stomachache. It was totally worth it.

2014 Madame was in a 765mL, and bottle cost from distro was nearly $23.

I still see some 2014 Madame Rose sitting on the shelves around here for 26.99....bottles collecting dust....

I had it, was good but id rather try other highly priced bottles for the first time than pay another high price for this one. If this was 19.99 id probably buy again.
