Haven't been living here long, but if I were to pick just one place I'd say stop at Brasserie V if you can afford it. Great beer selection, and awesome food. Cool vibe in there as well (no TVs). Others can chime-in to plan the rest of your time here

It's about 45 minutes outside of town, but a self-guided tour of the New Glarus facility is really cool. I second Brasserie V, also the Old Fashioned right on the Capitol square has a great beer selection and amazing cheese curds.

Yes, check out the new brewery. Hit up the Great Dane; there are now 3 locations. Malthouse has many many beers.

    Go to Capitol Square.
Great Dane > Old Fashioned > Cooper's Tavern > Brickhouse BBQ, in that order. These are all within walking distance and if you go in the order I list, it forms a nice little loop.
Eat at Old Fashioned or Cooper's Tavern (which is highly underrated in my opinion). The food at Great Dane is okay. The BBQ at Brickhouse sucks (if you have any relation to Alabama you will not even consider this BBQ because it is not), but their beer list will probably be the best of the bunch.

And if you want a bottle shop, Riley's Wines of the World is literally next door to Brickhouse BBQ. While they are not the absolute best shop in Madison, they are probably the second best.

I'm staying just a couple blocks from Capitol Square so that's perfect. Thanks everyone for the input.

If you can stand cigar smoke I highly recommend Maduro, awesome tap list and great whisk(e)y selection. Most recently I got a pint of halcyon off the firkin, but the list goes everywhere stylistically with a midwest/wisconsin bias.

Just curious: what do you think is the best bottle shop in Madison?

Just got back and I am duly impressed at the craft beer scene there. Went to a lot of the suggested places and had beer from New Glarus, Capital Brewery, Ale Asylum, and others. Also came back to Philly with bottles of New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart and my first 3F beer, Dreadnaught. Thanks again guys!

i'll revive this one for the best bottle shops in madison. I will be headed to new glarus in a few weeks and i want to go north to hit a good shop or two in that area. so this is probably multiple part question.....What is the best couple shops? What is the easiest to get to coming up from new glarus?

any shops there have anything from The Bruery?

Jenifer street market has a pretty large selection of Bruery bottles, it's 5-10 min off the square and is worth the trip.

If you come up from New Glarus then I would say Steve's on McKee is OK if you're coming up US-18/151 but I would drive another 10 minutes to go to Woodman's West which is right off the Beltline on Gammon Road.

But if you want Bruery bottles, Jenny Street is a good one to go to.

Ugh I hate Steve's McKee. I started going to Alipine in Oregon because they have a better selection. If I am going out of my way, I like Jenifer Street and Rileys the best.

Alpine is worth a visit? From the drive-by, it looks like nothing more than 30packs of Bud Light and 1.75's of cheak booze.
