Thinking about spending next Friday in or around Madison and then heading to New Glarus on Saturday. I've checked out the Beer Guide but am looking for any advice on where to go and where to stay. Ideally, I like to stay at a hotel preferably very close to my last stop. Was thinking Ale Asylum and Karben4 or maybe Vintage. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Karben4 is my favorite of those listed, but that part of town isn't super exciting for staying in. Don't skip Tyranena while you're in the area.
Ale Asylum is nice...limited food menu though. There aren't many beers you can't get in bottles elsewhere however. Still excellent fish tacos or pulled pork. Karben4 I've only had soup/sandwich at, both were fine. Beers are all solid. I'm indifferent about their new session ipa and it's a little overlapping to have an amber and an Irish red on tap. Smoked porter is great as is Fantasy Factory ipa. I was recommend to go to Dexter's as a beer bar with food as well and The Malt House. Can't speak for the Malt House, but Dexter's had a very solid tap list. Had bitches brew and salted belgian chocolate from New Belgium.
I agree with you. I'd get a hotel room near the capital (it's an away game) and visit a Karben4 in the afternoon. The Malt House (opens at 4 pm) is worth a stop on the way back to the hotel, if it's open. Drop the car off at the hotel and take the bus or a cab down to One Barrel Brewing (opens at 4pm) on Atwood. For dinner, there is Alchemist across the street from OBB or head back towards the square and eat at Nat Spil, The Old Fashioned, or Graze.
