Babe's is old-school Madison pub and grill food, great if you're into that. But Dave and Buster's is a chain and you can do a lot better to experience Madison elsewhere, imo. Gates and Brovi is great for kids. The Old Fashioned is big and raucous so if your kids are having A Day, you won't be disrupting anyone's adult time. Same with the numerous Great Dane locations around town.

How fast do you drive? More like 40 minutes. It's an option and a pleasant drive, and I love New Glarus (great beer, cool venue and facility), but there's plenty to do in Madison proper on a short trip. Also note that, unless there happens to be an R&D sour release going on, there's nothing you can get at the brewery that you can't get anywhere else throughout the state.

Agree with @islay about the travel time out to New Glarus. As far as I know, they have had past R&D releases available in the depot as well. I haven't been out to New Glarus in a few months, so maybe someone else can chime in if they've stopped making those available.

Babes was perfect, thanks! Except for the looks by the guys at the bar when I walked in with my cubs hoodie as the Brewers opening day game was on...

One night in town for work on Monday. Plan is Old Fashioned for a beer and cheese curds, Working Draft for a few beers, and then Tornado for a good steak dinner. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think you can do much better food wise than curds at Old Fashioned and steak at Tornado.

Get the bone in tenderloin...I'm so full right now and just writing that is still making me hungry.

I was impressed with the tap list and food at BRASSERIE V.
Also liked the vibe at The Malt House

If you’re downtown, Barleypop Live has been open for about two months now. Same deal as the location on Atwood, with the added venue in the back. A couple storefronts down from the Tornado Room, if you’re looking for a good beer selection in the area. Check them out!

If you’re in to barrel aged stuff tyranena is about a half hour east of madison and they usually have some good stuff on tap/4packs to go. Check their website for what’s available.

I’ll be staying in Verona for Epic training in September, are there any decent places to eat around there with a good tap list? I’ll probably Uber downtown one of the nights to check out Funk Factory (any other solid breweries to try around there?) and walk around Camp Randall, but other then that I’ll probably stay close-ish to Verona. Thanks!

Hop Haus is in downtown Verona and Wisconsin Brewing Company is on the edge of town as well. Both have tap rooms and often have food carts in the parking lot. Depending on the dates, WBC has bands at night too - usually on weekends.

I agree on Hop Haus and there is also good food and tap list at Sugar River Pizza in Verona. The Flying Hound Pub is close by. Quivey's Grove Stone House has great food and an OK tap list of local WI beers. Other good spots to check out on the West Side of town would be Longtable Beer Cafe and Brasserie V. Both would need an little longer Uber but are best bets for tap list plus food on the Epic side of Madison and closer than Funk Factory. If you Uber down to campus to walk near Camp Randall you should also check out the Student Union. Good tap lists and the best views in town. Enjoy!

I just want to clarify that there are two University of Wisconsin student unions in Madison: There's Memorial Union (opened 1928), featuring the excellent Terrace on Lake Mendota, which probably is what @bpolglaze is referring to with "the best views in town." That's about a mile northeast of Camp Randall and to me the top attraction in Madison. There's also Union South (opened 2011 in its current incarnation). It's a nice newer building right next to Camp Randall and does serve food and beer, but, unlike Memorial Union and its Terrace, I doubt it appeals much to people besides students, their parents, and alumni.

Driving through Madison next week for work (with others in my car) will be able to stop maybe once or twice to grab beer to go. Woodmans best bet? Any brewery with beer to go that is worth grabbing some stuff?

Into everything but sours for reference. Just looking to maximize my stops.

    TIA Cheers!

As far as breweries go, if you can convince the folks in your car to take a 15 minute detour New Glarus is where it's at. As far as Madison proper I like O'So for your purposes because its pretty easy to get in & out and to go beer is right there.

Also suggest Ale Asylum but the layout isn't as grab and go friendly.

It will take more like 45 minutes or so to get to New Glarus but it is worth the trip if you can do it. Woodman's will provide you with the most selection - Ale Asylum, Karben 4, Working Draft Brewing and Barley Pop are all worth stopping at. Ale Asylum and Karben 4 would be closest to the interstate.
