My name is Mike and I’m a beer dude. (“Hi Mike.,”) Originally from Buffalo, NY, weaned on Genessee beer way-back-when. Love Big Brews. Imperial Stout, Barleywine, DIPA & TIPA. Currently learning the nuances of Belgian ale after moving to the south of France in November 2023. Metal Head. (Watain, Tribulation) Love the BA Family.,. it’s my only social media. I got many ‘Cheeeeers’ to offer, and a ready ‘Dime for the Jukebox’! Thank you for letting me share.
Well, how do? And congratulations on the big move. I’ll bet you haven’t settled in yet. Put in a good word for BA over there and maybe start a local community of beer enthusiasts!
How about that!? Have you seen the thread by @Greymane two threads ago. He also uprooted and moved to southern France, to Nice. You two should get acquainted if you're close. And I'm also jealous of you too. However, I'm too old (77) to make a move like you did. Best wishes to you on your new life, and continue to hang around here on BA!
Been enjoying your tales of relocating to France @MadMadMike in WBAYDN! I hope you are able to secure a volunteer or perhaps part time position at a local brewery so you can continue with your brewing passion. Also hope you can find a good selection of beers you enjoy and to continue participating on WBAYDN! I've never not lived in Chicago, so a move to France would be quite a step, but is always fun to imagine adventures. I took some serious time considering relocating the past couple of years, both foreign but mostly domestic (South/Southwest or Porter County Indiana to remain somewhat near), but decided to dig in and stay here. Only one of the youngest generation remains in Illinois, and I hope he moves to Wisconsin or Indiana, or beyond after HS for his long term future.
Thank you brother for the kind words! I have enjoyed sharing this amazing experience with the BA Community. The life-changing decision came down to a question my wife asked me 6 months ago, and I urge you to ask yourself the same: “What are you looking forward to?” When I said, “football season to start”, I knew I had become complacent. I asked her the same. She said, “moving to France and tour the great capitals of Europe”. Everything after came naturally. Cheers!
That is an awesome development and mindset. Live life to the fullest! been lazy the past few months but starting to get a bit of ambition myself in terms of goals and travel plans. Cheers!
How's the selection of brewsky down there? Why haven't you given up to the wine? It is the shortest route towards a destination.
States are silly. There is no difference between Illinois, indie, MO, MI, etc. I'd go frankreich given the opportunity.
Greetings from the south of France! Wine, especially red wines, are a ride on the Heartburn Express for me. But I went to a fantastic Christmas market last wknd and totally enjoyed a cup of hot spiced mulled wine! The beers are great. They do them totally different in the EU, due mostly to tradition and non-American hops. And Stouts are not a thang here. I’ve lost 5 pounds in my first 6 weeks by not drinking 500 calorie big brews., Cheers!
Go frankreich, but not wide-right. And the opportunity is just beyond your fingertips. Reach out! Cheers!
