Dont have a recipe but I'm pretty sure they now use London Ale yeast (used to be Thames Valley). The beer tastes a little sweeter to me so maybe include some caramel malt to a base brown recipe. Also maybe add a small amount of chocolate malt and roast malt. I believe this brew may also contain some oats. Im not sure as to the hops but this is definitely a maltier beer so be careful adding any late additions. Here is what your targets should be: ABV: 5.5% IBU: 25 OG: 14 SRM: 24 Hope that helps.
I've had it three times. And while there's a whole lot going on, including some tobacco-like flavor, I didn't detect any smoked malt.
If you e-mail Wayne @ CCB he will probably help you out with this one. He has always been helpful when I have emailed him.
I think you're right and it could be all in my head. I definitely think this beer is evocative of smoking a good cigar, so maybe the smoke just comes from that association. Next time I can get a fresh bottle I'm going to try it again. It's definitely not there in older bottles. BTW using google I found a clone attempt here.
I did see that one, since it was a year and a half ago and no follow up on how it was, I'm a little skeptical. Emailing Wayne is not a bad idea either.
