Its a really good time to be living in ME right now. Breweries that have opened this year, or will open this year include:

    1. Banded Horn Brewing
    2. Biissell Brothers Brewing
    3. Austin St. Brewing
    4. Foundation Brewing
    5. Funky Bow Brewing
    6. Gneiss Brewing

I have been following the progress of these breweries with interest, but have not been able to get much information on the specific beers they will be offering. Anyone have any info on particularly interesting beers being made by these guys (hoppy lagers, brett IPA, etc.)?

    So excited right now.

Gneiss (pronounced "nice") Brewing in Limerick is going to have 3 beers at launch. Flagship is the Gneiss Weiss, they have also brewed a single hop IPA with Tomahawk hops, and a weizen stout. They should be open for business within a week or 2, best to check their Facebook for that info.

Banded Horn has posted 3-4 beers with descriptions on FB/Instagram. Pale Ale, IPA, Stout. So seems like a traditional american set of styles.

Bissell's flagship will be The Substance, a DIPA. Have seen very little about other styles from them.

Austin St is primarily brett beers. Again from Instagram, there's a hoppy pale, sour porter, brett saison, berliner weise. Definitely bretty-focused.

    Foundation...shrugs.

Funky Bow....they're in bars and have a website, so there's gotta be a listing somewhere.

Bissell Bros: The Eternal Brewery-In-Planning. I think they finally have a space at the old MBC building. Looking forward to trying their beers.

The only brewery on that list I've had beer from is Funky Bow. The Pale Ale I had back in March was very fresh and pretty tasty. Then I tried their beer at the Maine Brewer's Guild festival in July. My goodness was it bad.

They've been in there for months, and have a brewhouse recently installed.

Any idea what the size and make of the brewhouse are? Cheers

I believe there are currently three breweries at 1 Industrial way, Bissell Bros., Foundation Brewing, and Austin St. I don't think any are up and producing yet, but hopefully over the next few months we will start to see some beer flow out of there again.

We (Austin Street) are working towards an early 2014 opening. We were hoping to get things rolling by the end of the year but, you know, government shutdown. We'll be a tiny 1 bbl brewery with 2bbl fermenters producing a couple clean beers for draft/growlers with bottled saisons rotating through. The saisons will all feature varying levels of brett influence and we'll be working in at least one other bottled brett treat at some point.

Very cool stuff. Correct me if I am mistaken, but you have rented space at 1 Industrial, correct?

We visited Bunker Brewing yesterday and thought them fun and impressive, they were pouring their machine pils, a brown and funky Bo$$ a sour ipa. All three were good beers, this was a nicer stop than the over sanitized Rising tide just around the corner.

    What is a 'clean' beer?

No brett, lacto, or pedio. In our case, a hop forward american pale, with other seasonal-ish beers rotating through.

Stopped by Deepwater Brewing in Blue Hill while I was there this past weekend. Are moving from a tiny system with beers served in the bar of the attached restaurant to a detached building in the back that will host a larger system and a full-on brewpub with growler-fills. No one around for further info, but brewers are the sons of a local friend's kids, and they are moving from seasonal to year-round service. Door was open so we stepped inside the new place - more interior work ahead and the brewhouse is in, but a very pretty space just off Main St. next to the owner's resto Arborvine (is the dad of one of the brewers and chef/owner.)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but Infidel Brewing out of Warren, another new wave brewery which has been around since the spring, has already announced they are closing. From their Facebook page
    And so it begins...

I don't view this as any indication of a trend or market saturation or anything like that; rather an indication that you can't offer an undrinkable product and remain in business for long. I found the stuff unfit for human consumption, and never found anyone who disagreed. Perhaps seems harsh, but absolutely the worst beer I've ever tasted.
