So I was out to a local bar that specializes in import and craft selections. When looking at the beer menu the waiter asked if I needed a minute but I decided to ask what he has that is "off the menu". He sort of smirked and asked what I meant, so I replied, something hard to find. turns out he had bottles of Founders Better half and Bourbon County Coffee, and thought he had a bottle of King Henry left which would have made my night for sure. Moral of the story is I am back home a bottle of better half and BCBCS richer so make sure to ask! man I wish they actually had that King Henry...thats turning into my "White Whale"
What local establishment is this? I can't think of many that allow beer to be brought home with the exception of one maybe two.
It depends on the various state & local laws. Here in WA if you have an "off-premesis" license, which you need to sell growlers, you can also sell bottles to go.
If it was in K-zoo I'm pretty sure I know which bar you're referring to. Pretty cool either way. Not everything is meant for the menu.
Good point, I never even thought of asking for something not on the menu.I've brought home some really good bottles on business trips from bars I've visited but paid out the ying-yang for them.
In PA, it's one of the only ways to bring single bottles home. Of course, at $5 for a 12 ounce SN Pale Ale, it's not exactly the most efficient way to do it...
I wonder how good a fresh BCBCS is, the bottle I had was just not very good. No coffee at all, just a muddled mess and IIRC it was only 6 months old. Cheers!
Just to add on to this, at a bottle shop it never hurts to ask if anything is hiding in the back. More often than not something limited and/or delicious will be...
