I have a friend who told me out of the blue that she tried a bomber of New Holland's Dragon's Milk. I didn't even take her for a beer drinker. She says the thing that she enjoyed the most was the heavy bourbon barrel oak hit that she got when she took her first sniff and first sip. :grimacing:

I dorked out and immediately explained the RIS style to her. I also had to explain that the bottle she bought was a bomber. It was a moment!

Anyway, through our conversation I found out, (and could have guessed), that she is a light-weight. It took her about 10 days to finish a bomber. I'm just thinking out loud here, and I'm sure it would benefit other beer drinkers, I'm thinking that there should be self-carbonating tablets that help add carbonation to a bomber or a growler of beer. It could just be a capsule of yeast and priming sugar that could go into a bottle, seal it off, and give it a day. Boom. You have a recarbonated beer. I'd be a hellovalot cheaper than the CO2 cartridge-driven devices I've seen,

    Stipulations:

It should be a frozen capsule. It should operate at refrigerator temps, it should have a hellova low attenuation, and it should come with caps that could help seal off a growler or a crown cap bottle without a wing capper, (for the causal drinker).

    I want 5% of the profits.

Unfortunately, this would be very difficult. Many times, such as a RIS, the environment is very difficult for yeast to "get going again" to re-carbonate. Or you would have to use a very aggressive yeast strain that would likely chomp away too much, resulting in a different beer all together drying it out further if any fermentables are left in the finished beer.

Adding sugar/yeast to finished beer rarely does anything. In brewing situations, breweries will pitch large, active yeast starters at high krausen to try and dry out a beer further. Even this can be difficult.Using dried yeast would not work so well though without shocking the yeast. Plus, the beer would need to be warmed to 65F or so for ales so the yeast is at a proper temp. It would be more hassle than it would be worth!

The one and only time I got the pea-brained idea to make a bitter beer sweeter by adding a tiny amount of table sugar to beer poured in a glass, it instantly turned into a foam bath.

The tablet idea does sound like a great idea if it can be done (and sold on the very cheap).

Not to mention it would take more than 24 hours... There is no way for this to work like that with yeast and sugar.

There have been a few times when I realize I'm not going to get through an entire bomber of 12+ abv beer without alcohol poisoning. I will just re-cap it with my wing capper and drink the rest the next day. I usually get a good hiss when opening, and decent carbonation. I don't know if that would carry over for 3-4 days though. Never tried it

Carbonation, like everything involved with brewing, is not an afterthought.

You can not expect to reproduce a good much less less great product from the brewery any more than you may intend to make a great restaurant dish with some will power and a hot stove.

If you enjoy a great RIS or any other beer, so be it. Attempting to make it something it isn't with some pill is a waste of time.

Now we could go on and on about the why but trust me when I say beer, carbonation and brewing is not something that can be fixed with a pill.
    Cheers,
