I'm looking for a liquor store in New Jersey where I could make my own six pack. I've heard of these stores but I haven't found one near me and Google isn't giving me much help. Any suggestions? Looking for one with a really nice selection (preferably northern/central Jersey).

In central Jersey, just some of the stores with extensive "singles" shelves that come to mind:

    Cranbury Buy Rite (Rt. 130)
Joe Canal's in Iselin/Woodbridge (Rt. 1) (haven't been to Lawrenceville JC's lately but the had singles, too)
Wine World in East Brunswick (Rt. 18)
I'm sure that many more stores can be added to the list - I generally don't go near the single section and not sure what pricing is on those I noted above. Probably reading the reviews of stores in towns nearest you would be a better way to find a local liquour store large singles sections than Google. http://www.beeradvocate.com/place/directory/9/US/NJ/

It would help to know what town you live in.

The Total Wines are good because they also have a singles shelf in the seasonals aisle, so you know those are fresh.

The ones i know of in Northern NJ are Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars in Boonton, Gary's in Wayne, Amazing Grapes in Pompton Lakes ( which sells all singles cold) and the already mentioned Total Wine. It's been a while since I've been there but Village Wine Shop in Maplewood also sold singles.

Gary's does it but be prepared to pay about $20 for the sixer. Good selection though.

Make sure to check your bottle dates though. Some stores dont remove out of code beer from make your own six pack section very often. I am pretty sure this store by me still has a single of Great Lakes Burning River Pale Ale with a BEST By 5/2013 LOL!

Wegmans (the two near me in Princeton and Mt Laurel) actually have fantastic make your own sixers sections. A great selection that rotates and the best part is any combo of beers is $10.99. At a place like Canals you could end up with a $20 sixer. They often have big beers available as well. Just be sure to check dates if possible.

Wegman's in Ocean Township has the best choices in the area - although I never do this myself. If you are a craft "noobie", Wegman's is a great starting point for this.

Farmingdale Liquors does this too, but it's much less of a selection.

Garys does but it is a limited selection that they have chosen, you cant take a single of any beer they have in stock.

Your best bet is probably total wine. you could do it all from their website and select in store pickup.

Also, depending on how far North you are (ie. Northern Bergen County), you could hop over the border and go to Cable Beverage. You'll never go to another beer store again.

I get a mixed 6 there regularly and have never paid close to $20, usually paying around $12 to $14. They do sell single Belgians like Chimay in the $5 range but even beers like Nimble Giant which I got there recently seemed reasonably priced.

Total Wine probably has the biggest selection for singles in the area but I've never seen a store that offers all their stock as singles.

Everyone, thanks for all the input. I'm going to try out a couple of these places and see what I can find. I just figured what's the best way to try more beer in variety for a cheaper price?

Just checked out this website. Really nice selection so far. Wish their filter setting would work on my phone though.

Gary's in Wayne has been mentioned though is very limited. The better bet in Wayne is USA Wine Traders Club in Wayne. It's maybe 10-minutes from Gary's on Hamburg Turnpike and definitely has a better selection of singles.

Ditto! This is a must stop for a mix 6. Just check dates, as some could be old. And keep your elbows in. Easy to knock something over.
