Making a trip to Tippy Dam from Columbus, Ohio during the weekend of October 10-12. Looking for places to stop on the way there and back. Ill be passing through Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids on the way there, and coming back through Lansing, and Ann Arbor. I know about the breweries there, and have stopped there before and will be making a stopping by to get some food. I'm planning on stopping at Drake's in Kalamazoo, and Sicilano's in GR. Is there anything special out now that I should be looking for? Or if anyone is interested in an IP Trade or if anyone is in the Tippy Dam area to share a few beers. Let me know. Can get Growlers Of Bodhi, if interested in trade.
Take a look at the seasonals and limited releases on the Short's release schedule ( https://www.shortsbrewing.com/beer/beer-schedule-2014/ ) and add anything to your list that interests you and then see if they might be on a store shelf. Arcadia just released their 2014 Shipwreck Porter (BBA Baltic Porter) on tap at the brewery, but I don't know if it is out in bottles yet. Do you have any favorite style?
I strongly recommend stopping at Dark Horse in Marshall for a brewery tour if you haven't done so before. You get to sample 6-7 beers after the tour in their VIP bar and they usually have 2-3 special releases that are worth the $10 alone.
Definitely founder's harvest party on October 11. Starts at 11 a.m. and 10 bucks gets you a pour of harvest ale and a glass if you're in early enough. Cheers!
Thanks guys. Harvest fest would be great but I'll be fishing all day Saturday so u won't make that. I might swing back by there on Sunday and see what is left over on tap. Looking forward to trying some more of Shorts beers. I've only had hums lips and the brown bellaire. I do love some dark horse.
Salmon are in the rivers pretty thick right now so you should have a great trip! I'm heading to the manistee on Thursday for a little salmon/steelhead outing. Pretty pumped. Gotta grab the two hearted cans!
I would recommend stopping at Horrocks on your way through Lansing, they have a great beer selection, decent prices, and you can grab (almost) any beer as a single. They even have free samples during the day and it's right off 96/69 so it should be right on your way.
Don't forget to stop at Arcadia Ales in Battle Creek or Kalamazoo, especially if you are into traditional style English Ales. If you like Red Ales, Old Peninsula in Kalamazoo makes a great one and they have very good food also. In the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, the Arbor Microbrewery in Ypsi (formerly Corner Brewery) is very cool.
The tippy should be LOADED with salmon when you get here. We went 15/30 on the manistee on Thursday. Only kept ten of course as it was my dad and I and the limit is five per day. Use skein and a bobber for your best results. They weren't hitting the hardware (thunder sticks/spinners etc.) Get ready for some tight lines! Cheers man.
