The ultimate used to be Boulevard Double Wide. I'd agree with 90 minute for sure. Odell Myrcenary DIPA is quite malty as well. I find the midwestern IPAs tend to run much more malty than what I generally get in New England, where they tend to be very pale, with a lighter malt profile.

90 Minute is kind of the gold standard of malt-forward DIPA's for me, followed by Double Jack.

Only the MA crowd will relate, but Boom Sauce fits the bill.

Interesting.... I got fruit and dank from DJ. Especially as it warmed. More fruit colder.

Know how I know you haven't tried Northeast IPAs?

    Wut? :astonished:

Bon Bon is not malt forward in the slightest. Did you drink it when it was 6 months old?

From what I've tasted Lagunitas IPA is very malt forward, not a character I generally enjoy in an IPA.

When it's really fresh, the hops dominate. Sadly most sixers one finds on the shelves are old.

I have to agree, labeling an IPA as "all malt" is tantamount to saying it is a hop forward ale, pure redundancy. Anyone that tries to make an IPA with corn or rice will surely find themselves in beer hell, or I for one hope they do.

IPAs are pale ales. I do not want a lot of sweetness or maltiness mucking them up, but that's just me. A bit of it to balance a big base bitterness can be nice, but it better not be the at all over-powering.

I have always wondered why Victory calls Hop Devil an IPA for this very reason. Don't get me wrong, I like the beer, very much, but I think it would be more properly called an amber ale. IMHO.

Ahh, that would make sense, especially being distributed across the country.

Well one needs to remember that HopDevil was formulated in 1995....not too many IPAs out at that time. Even Stone has said selling an IPA was tough in 1996 but HopDevil was always a strong brand at VBC. Hoppy beers at that time included Liberty, Celebration and Tuppers Hop Pocket Ale.
