Like many, IPAs are my favorite style. But while drinking a White Rajah the other day I realized I prefer ones with a nice malt base. Not that there's anything wrong with White Rajah, and I certainly wouldn't drain pour it. But when push comes to shove, I'm looking for that rich malt to go with the hops.

I love strong ales, but it seems like many of them are seasonal. I bought Lagunitas WTF wherever I saw it, and ditto Great Lakes Nosferatu. But both, alas, are gone until next year.

So, can my fellow BAs recommend the best malty IPAs out there to quench my thirst?

I've found that most Stone legacy stuff has a nice malt thing happening. Lukcy Batsard (so?), Arrogant Bastard both good for what you are looking for.

I don't know it it's sold in SC but Brooklyn East India Pale Ale would fit the bill.

Buy some Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. The other plus for this beer is that it holds up well with time.

    Cheers!

This probably isn't helpful, but Carton EGOIPA would be perfect.

I don't like malty IPAs, but I do know I prefer some balance, I don't like hop juice. : see Session IPAs. When I think of "malty" IPAs I'm thinking they have some age on them muting the hops. I'd look to bigger Dipas and use Hopslam as an example, let it sit for 6 months, a year, why not? The hops are still there they're just muted , and the malts take over. I don't see the comparison to a a big BW they're different beers from the get go. This wouldn't be my thing , but if your looking for a big beer with a big malt backbone Hopslam would work, ever easier 90 Minute.

I second DFH 90min, Victory Hop Devil, as well as SN Celebration Ale and would add Great Divide Titan IPA & Lagunitas Maximus for well balanced IPA/IIPAs.

    Cheers!

Red IPA's seem like a decent avenue to consider, if you haven't already done so.

Odell IPA and Bell 2 Hearted were the first two to come to mind when thinking of IPA's with a balanced malt presence.

This x2. Also support the recs for SN Celebration, Hop Devil, and 90 min.

Maybe look for Tocobaga if you get CC stuff, Stone Pataskala (though seasonal), or GF Hop Head Red.
