Anyone traded or know of one traded lately? What kinds of beers would trade equally with this? Would it go 1:1 with the likes of Eszett, Ann, 50N4E, Cable Car Kriek? And finally what was the total bottle count? Seems like there aren't many of these floating around.
I traded for one last month. Kate 11 and 12, SH BRL king Henry and bcbcs for malvasia and 2012 cable car. Good extras on both ends and both people were happy. Not sure on bottle count but I think I read about how many barrels were used and calculate somewhere between 800-1200
I have been interested in this trade lately too. Would a Falling Rock La Folie, and a 2004 La Folie get close on this?
I got one in the first whale BIF, sent out Iced Eclipse. So I suppose you could say it trades for Iced Eclipse, you could also say it doesn't.
Theres more than one vintage and there was a pretty good amount of bottles released not too long ago online and overseas so there certainly out there and people with multiples to trade. A combo of limited hf (ann,mimosa etc) would prob work or a combo of a limited older release like isabelle, ba darklord, ba huna plus a few less rare things have landed bottles that i know of.
There's a decent amount out there. Hell, a bottle or two were on Beer Planet not long ago. I'd think it would be a little cheaper than all those listed, except maybe Ann (CC Kriek is pricey..). I'm constantly disappointed by this beer when I get a pour at whale tastings, but I have friends that seem to enjoy it. I'd take Hommage all day every day over it There was a re-release of sorts, or a found stash of bottles, that were on sale at 3F in 2011. A lambic jedi master may have slightly more accurate info than I have.
the 02 and 03 were in completely different ballparks. the appearance of each beer were in stark contrast to one another when doing a side by side, 02 was a purpleish red, the 03 more like a normal geuze with a hint of color.
Here's one perspective on where Malvasia Rosso stands versus other rare bottles. We had 12 whale bottles in our 2012 Fantasy Football league, and Malvasia Rosso was chosen 9th when the winners split them up: 1. Veritas 004 2. Jean Chris Nomad 3. Kaggen! 07 4. Blauw 5. Hommage 6. Isabelle Proximus 7. Veritas 003 8. Cable Car 07 9. Malvasia Rosso 10. Crianza Helena 11. Armand + Tommy 12. BA Cognac Dark Lord And here's what I remember about bottle counts. While I don't know the original number of "Druiven Gueuze" bottles, a couple of years ago 3F found 800 more bottles and sold them at 25 euros each with the newer "Malvasia Rosso" label.
The '02 and '03 are much different in look and taste. I think there were only 4 or so vintages made though the '03 is much easier to find because a small amount was sold at a handful of places a couple years ago. Probably to get some extra cash because of the thermostat incident. I'm not sure how one just finds hundreds of bottles hidden in their inventory but that was the story. Ølbutikken had a 2 bottle limit and sold out in 2-3 days.
