Hey, going on a family trip up to Manchester, VT; and curious as to what the best beer options in the general area are; either breweries or bars/bottle shops that will have local stuff. As said, going to be with family (and have a 1 year old) so too far of a drive is out of the question, but still looking for some good beer while up in Vermont. Any suggestions?
Lunch at Honeypie (family-oriented) in Rawsonville, then walk across the street to Muelemen's Craft Draft for beer shopping.
+1 duchessedubourg's recommendations. The Crooked Ram on Main Street in Manchester Village has a good selection of craft beer plus crowlers from 8 taps. Worth a stop. Check the web site for current taps. http://thecrookedramvt.com/ Also Discount Beverage usually has a decent selection of fresh VT beer. Beers I recommend looking for in southern VT: Backacre Lost Nation Mosiac, Lost Galaxy IPA, and Gose BBCo... anything available that suits your preferences. I like Wizard, Stainless Forest, and Elaborate Metaphor. Frost... again anything fresh will be pretty good. Foley Brothers If you see it anywhere _on tap_ try Queen City Hefeveisen. It's crazy good on tap.
+1 to Foley Brothers. Also Hoppin Moose in Rutland. Their Better Dayz and Head doctor are very good. Anything from Foley Brothers is great.
How easy is it to find backacre nowadays in Vermont? Coming up next week and would like to find a couple bottles. Thanks
Very hard in stores. I don't think they have done a bottle drop in over a month or so. You are more likely to find it as a bottle offering at a good beer bar. Three Penny Taproom may still have bottles left.
