I've watched a lot of YouTube videos and read a lot of accounts where brewers use an H-shaped manifold with slits cut on the underside attached to the spigot in his/her picnic cooler mash tun to avoid clogging the valve with grain. Almost all of them use PVC but I've read that PVC isn't capable of handling the high temperature of the mash and will leech nasty chemicals into the wort, so I've heard many use "Food-Grade PVC piping," if so, where do I find this? If not, I think I'll just try using copper/brass tubing for the same design.

It's called CPVC and is right next to regular PVC in the big box stores.

I'd use a stainless steel water supply braid and be done with it. Saying this after throwing away my manifold and giving anyway my false bottom. Perhaps you will have better luck!

+1 to this, but only if OP is batch sparging. If fly sparging, a manifold or false bottom would be better IMO.

Charlotte pipe company , a manufacturer of PVC, and CPVC, claims CPVC is not for potable water, it is intended for industrail use only.. Personally, I'd use Stainless steel, copper as a second choice.
As Chris Farley once said, u can get a good look at a T-bone steak by sticking ur head up a bull's a$$, but wouldn't u rather take the butcher's word 4 it?
I took Charlotte's word for it.

I have never read\heard\whatever that cpvc is not for potable water.
