I am working a new recipie and have already decided on and purchased the ingredients. But now that I am working on setting up my brew session in ProMash (version 1.8.a) I have discovered that Maris Otter is not a grain choice. Is there another grain that I could sub in the software to give me acurate estimates for ABV, SRM etc? Thanks and CHEERS!
I see it under pale malt-Maris Otter in my grain data base. I did update all my database entries from some Google searches some time ago. This has the most resent updates. http://www.promash.com/proboard/index.html Cheers! DM
The database i linked was last updated in 2010. These were done by a community member. The actual app has not been updated in a long time. There are rumors that a version 2 will be available at some point. I hope so as its a great program. Also remember that you can add any style, grain, hop or yeast to the database. Just open the category you want and hit "new". Cheers! DM
I have now gotten the new data into ProMash, but a lot is still missing, like Simcoe... Its really time for Pro Mash to do a really good update! The link above is the most recent and its almost 2 years old now.
Yes, but not currently. It seems the programs have the styles to help guide the user towards the BJCP standards and "rules" for the style. If there is no style it is hard to really set the parameters for it. I am not familiar with Promash but I know in BeerSmith you can add a style if you really want to.
As said before, you can add to any of the Promash databases very easily. If you don't want to add to the grain database, just use British Pale, as its numbers are virtually identical to MO. 38 PPG, 3 SRM ...etc.
Maris Otter IS an English pale malt. It's grown in England and lightly kilned. Quite frankly the differences between batches make anything other than a rough approximation pointless.
