Hey Guys, I could use a bit of direction here. My friend is heading to PEI (near Cavendish) for 2 weeks, driving from Montreal. Can you suggest beer/breweries he could stop and visit along the way? Recommendations for PEI breweries would also be great. Thanks!
I would definitely recommend a stop in Fredericton NB for a visit to Grimross. They might be the best brewer in NB right now and they are doing some really nice beers. Give them a try!
PEI Brewing Company has some good stuff, though I haven't tried that much of their stuff. That being said I have heard good things about some of the other beers they do. You should also be able to get plenty of Garrison out in PEI, and, if lucky, you might be able to find Boxing Rock beer being sold in PEI (They are actually located on the southern tip of NS). Their Vicar's Cross DIPA is one of my favorite IPA/DIPAs, best in Canada IMO.
Only three breweries in PEI, and the two that are easiest to hit up are in Charlottetown. That being said, the drive will take him past Fredericton and Moncton, which both have several breweries/beer stops. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1VyKyXD344i0uwV3sEicBT0-SdPs&hl=en_US
I can't find the original post were I heard about @ToddtheBeerDude's blog (link), but it's my go-to source for Maritime Beer info. It's a fantastic site with current events, brewry links, maps, etc. Thanks Todd!
If still travelling and near Fredericton Maybee Brewing is making a great APAand Belgian Trippel. As well as the APA from Gray Stone
Vicar's Cross can be found at the NSLC. They have an online search option to see what locations carry it.
Unfortunately, I'm in NL and our liquor corporation is incredibly strict on importing alcohol. I do often bring back some when I'm in the province.
TrailWay Brewing https://www.facebook.com/trailwaybrewing/ They make north east style hoppy beers. They're the best brewery in NB. Growler fills for take-away beer only at the moment, but worth a detour to find them!
