Just heard that Coronado filed suit against Maritime for the use of the name Islander. I guess it's an old case, but the first I've heard of it. Fuck Coronado.
Guys, it's all about branding. They don't want confusion. It works. Now I'll never get confused and think Coronado is a beer I should buy.
I don't know what the law says... but I believe Maritime has been using the Islander name for a very long time in this market. Now if Coronado (who just started selling their beer here this year I believe) wants to sell a beer called Islander in Washington, they need to either put it on the shelves as-is and STFU, or rename their beer for local distribution. If the lawsuit is about Maritime selling their Islander in California or other markets where Coronado also has a footprint, then I could see them having more of a case.
Hopefully both breweries go under. Their production of turdz is a waste of perfectly good ingredients.
Hey! Some a-hole lawyer will chime in and in a very patronizing tone admonish us that we don't have a right to an opinion, are completely ignorant, and should shut the fuck up.
?? There's a lawyer on each side of every issue. Besides, people like to pick on lawyers but it's usually juries that determine settlements not lawyers. Just a casual observation for what it's worth.
