    Drinking their "Imperial Pale Ale" Toughcats right now and I have to say i'm very underwhelmed (especially at the price point). This is the third beer I've tried from MW, with the others being Ace Hole and Can't Dog. I really enjoyed Ace Hole, although for what they charge there are a bunch of other beers I'd rather pick up before it. I really did not enjoy Can't Dog. For an Imperial IPA I found it to be incredibly malt heavy with an almost butter-like mouthfeel that I didn't really enjoy.
    In Maine it seems like there is a lot of praise for MW, and from the limited (though it seems like their two most popular beers) tastings I've had I can't quite seem to understand the hype. What do you all think? Should I bother with their other can offerings that are available in Portland (Sexy Chaos, Illegal Ale-ian) or is MW over-priced and under-delivering beer.

    FWIW, do a search and you'll find plenty of threads about MW's inconsistency. My first four pack of Ace Hole was amazing but pretty much every one after has tasted weird and buttery.

    The service at the brewpub can be a little brusque/curt from time to time - had a rough time a few weekends ago - but the beers are mostly on point.

    Sexy Chaos is definitely worth a try and IMO their best canned offering, if you can find it.

    I second that on Sexy Chaos. Easily their best canned beer. Illegal Ale-ian is very hit or miss amongst my group, I might stay away from that one if you are already on the fence about their offerings.

    Buttery is exactly the feel and flavor that comes to mind for me. I enjoyed the offerings I had at their brew pub, but the cans have been real inconsistent.

    My feeling is that for the price, I'll pass on them in the future. Maybe I'll try newer offerings if I come across them, but ace hole and can't dog have burned me enough already.

    I feel the same way. I tried the ToughCats at When Pigs Fly on draft and was very disappointed. People speak highly of the can't dog and acehole and I thought they were just OK.

    Tried Illegal Ale-ian the other night, had a serious diacetyl flavor, not enjoyable.

    I was just there last Saturday. I had a sampling of five of their beers (Sexy Chaos, Scarlet Leather, Illegal Ale-ian, Big Twitch, and T2-R9 Barleywine) as well as a full pour of MacFindlay Scotch Ale.

    My favorites were Sexy Chaos and MacFindlay Scotch Ale.

    Did not enjoy my last batch of Illegal alien at all.
    However every sexy chaos I I've had has been great.
    Big twitch was a favorite but something has changed the last couple have not been enjoyable.
