So I don't know if Marshall Wharf is on anyone else's radar - they're out of Belfast Maine, run from a bar called Three Tides right on the water, beautiful place. They closed down a couple years ago, unrelated to Covid, as they're kind of off the beaten track (up by Bar Harbor) and are kinda low key. Never really had any major hits, but more of a cult beer. Whelp, looks like they're back! According to Bier Cellar in Portland, they're under new ownership and have started with three of their classics - a single IPA called Ace Hole, a triple called Can't Dog, and a Vanilla RIS called Sexy Chaos which is exceptional. All are 16 oz cans, and the IPAs have a really distinctive yeast taste. I can't wait to try them again. Enjoy them if you can track them down, cheers!
There was another thread about the closing and reopening, but it fell out of use. They've been open for a few months or so. Looking forward to going back this summer.
Yup this was my fave by them too. I rarely saw this in my local stores so I sprung for it always in ME stores while up there. As a style RISs were great in the early 2010s before Fox Farm and Barreled Souls took most of my stout cash. Along with this I loved Fumapapa by Pretty Things and the Russian Imperial Stout by Otter Creek.
Nice, I actually still have a Fumapapa hoarded away for the right time...! And just brought an can of Attenuator from Marshall Wharf out that I had in my cellar which is ironic now that I hear this news...
Their Instagram account has been quite active since they reopened. A post from just two hours ago has a pic of the chalk board: 10 beers on draft and 7 canned offerings to go. No matter what you think of their beer (I find people have mixed opinions), it is one of my favorite places on earth to drink beer in the summer.
Agreed. The deck at Marshall Wharf is absolutely beautiful. Love that giant wood stove in this chilly weather!
